Counting Days
If I got AF on November 9th and again on December 3, would that be considered a 25 day cycle?
Also - I am SURE this has been asked before, but do you count the first day as when you begin to spot with AF or the day when it starts in full force?
Thanks

Re: Counting Days
Spotting is considered the last day of your previous cycle. CD1 is the first day of your "real" AF. I think it's a 24 day cycle if you started AF again on 12/3 b/c that would be day 1 of this cycle.

Re: Counting Days
When I get AF, I spot for 2 days (the first day I just wear a pantiliner, the 2nd day I need a light tampon), then I bleed VERY heavy for 1 day and then light for 2 more days. I have 25 day cycles (on average) and I count the first day of spotting as AF.
The reason is because I have been getting AF (the first day of spotting) 14 days after I ovulate. I talked to my DR and he said that I should count it this way.
I read that you are suppose to count the first day of heavy bleeding as CD 1, but for me, I count the first day I see blood as CD1.

That's where I am confused. I spot for 2-3 days and then begin the regular flow.

I spot for 2 - but the first day is very light and the second I use a tampon - then the 3rd day is horrendous! haha

Re: Counting Days
This used to be how mine was and for me, it indicated a luteal phase defect. I started taking B vitamins and this improved. Now I don't really get sptting at all or maybe 1/2 day the day before my real flow

I asked my DR about that and he said they worry about that if it falls anywhere under 12, and mostly when it falls under 10. Mine is never that short, so he ruled that out. He said this is just how my cycle is.

What is the luteal phase?
The luteal phase, also referred to as 'days past ovulation' or 'DPO', is the part of the cycle that starts at ovulation and ends the day before your next period. It usually lasts about 14 days and does not vary by more than a day in each person. The luteal phase is named after the corpus luteum (Latin: "yellow body"), a structure that grows on the surface of the ovary where a mature egg was released at ovulation. The corpus luteum produces progesterone in preparing the body for pregnancy. Your luteal phase must be at least 10 days long to support pregnancy.
