Couple of small Disney tips

We just returned from a great trip to Disney. HOT and crowded, but fun. Wanted to pass along my two small tips.

If you have a daughter and don't want to spend the money for the BBB, go into the location in the castle and ask for pixie dust. What they do depends on who you get, but they will likely say a little something, sprinkle your daughter with pixie dust (glitter), and give her a sparkly cheek sticker, let her look in the full length mirror. Cute and free, and my DD LOVED it. The cast members often refer to the little girls as "Princess" as you go on the attractions, so she was just beaming since she really thought the pixie dust made her a princess. They won't sprinkle anyone under 3 though.

Second small tip. In Hollywood Studios quick service locations (maybe other parks, but didn't notice) they sell these snack pack boxes for kids. It's $5.49 and includes a string cheese, lowfat yogurt, white milk, goldfish crackers, cookie, and carrots with dip. Good value and relatively healthy considering.... Actually most meals we purchased at quick service were decent. Turkey sandwiches, chicken drumstick, veggies, yogurt, grapes, etc. We had fries maybe twice the entire trip. I often ordered kids meals for myself too Chat Icon

Thanks for the tip. I'm springing for BBB because it will be DD's actual 4th birthday, but I wonder if I can get the pixie dust done before we go to Akershus two days earlier??

You sure could and should! We went more than once for pixie dust. They don't ask your name or anything and it takes just a few minutes. Of course you would have to go to the MK or Downtown Disney before the meal

Another alternative - is the Mainstreet barber shop. If you get a cut ($14) they will put your hair in a pony tail and put color gel and pixie dust (glitter). I have read mixed responses but for $7 they will put color gel and pixie dust on - some report that they will also put your hair in a pony tail for that but others say no. I know many people use this as a cheaper alternative to BBB. They put their DD's hair into a bun at their hotel and get them into their princess dress and get the hair done at the barber shop or they put their hair up at the hotel, get the gel and glitter at the Barber shop (they have several colors that they can choose from) and then they go over to the BBB and buy a princess dress there.

Yeah if you do the barber shop, you have to get there right when the park opens. I wish they would expand that space. It's so small in there.

We did bring a dress, etc., but it was so darn hot when we went that we didn't want to bother with it. Maybe next time!

Since the BBB location at Magic Kingdom gets so packed, you can also go to Castle Couture located behind Cinderella Castle and they'll do a sprinkle of pixie dust for you as well. No cheek jewels but it's another great option!

I think all the shops in MK have pixie dust. I forget which one I was in on Main St - but I found out that morning I was expecting DD#2 and I got DH a surprise in the shop and asked if they had a card so I could put a note on it and have him open it with the gift in front of the castle where they could take a photo. They pulled out a card for me and a ton of pixie dust and said that if I needed more I could get it at any of the shops. That was back in 2008 though not sure if they still do that though.

Re: Couple of small Disney tips

I was going to suggest the barber shop, too. It's a lot of fun and I don't think most kids will know the difference. Just the fun experience and being called "Princess"

The biggest tip I can give anyone is to get there at Rope Drop. DH is NOT an early riser, but I made him a RD believer on this trip. We were at MK on a 9.3 day and we walked on at least a dozen rides and met 4 characters (including Mickey), stopped for PhotoPass pics, etc before the park even started to get crowded.

The earlier rope drop is, the more time you'll have before everyone else gets up

We didn't have time. But she loved her trip to BBB right before her birthday lunch with Cinderella!
