cover or air out a healing wound??
i got my stitches out a week ago and i know i should be covering it when im out and about. but if im at home resting, should a healing wound be covered or out? TIA

What did ther dr. say? I would cover it if it was weeping, or still open or red. JMHO.

he's not in the office until tuesday and i dont want to bother him before that...but come to think of it, i believe he said keep it out unless i actualy am walking around or out and about.

When a cut is still open, you don't want it to get dirty because there is a high risk of infection. You definitely want it covered any time you are out of your house. You may want to keep it covered when you're doing something at home that could get it dirty, too, or if you have pets that you handle while you're home.

i would keep it covered during the day with a bandaid/bandage with some bacitracin. then at night i would clean it and let if "air out". i just had a very bad burn on my thumb that i needed prescription burn cream. my doc told me to cover during the day and just leave the bandage off at night.

I agree with this advice, my mom always used to tell me to let my wounds 'breathe' That is of course, if it's not still bleeding!!
