Covering up wall unit air conditioners from the inside
We are installing CAC ASAP in the new house. However, there are several wall unit air conditioners that will no longer be used. We will eventually rip them out and re-side the house and fix the walls involved, but for now the house doesn't even really need an immediate paint job so we want to hold off and the siding is in really good condition, but not new enough to just take some siding and cover the hole if that makes sense.
How would you cover those eye sores? Just looking for ideas. The dining room one can easily be hidden by the drapes, but the den one will be right over the TV. There may be more, I can't remember. TIA!

I would rip it out and patch up the hole if its not on the front of your house & do siding later...

Re: Covering up wall unit air conditioners from the inside
We had the same problem & got one of these from Bed, Bath & Beyond (I can't find it on their website, though).
It looks much, much better now!
ETA: I just realized that the pic is of a window unit, but we use the cover on an old wall unit. It has drawstrings that make it fit snugly. Luckily the beige matches our decor in the room & honestly most people don't even realize that it's there anymore!

we use the same over in the winter to cover the AC unit. but we have beige walls, so it blends in. At least you don't have to look at the AC unit you can remove it.

Re: Covering up wall unit air conditioners from the inside
Just close the wall and do it right.
It's not even that difficult. Pull back the surrounding siding on the outside. Install new sheathing, tar paper, and install new siding to cover hole.
Then from the inside just throw some insulation where the AC was, and cover with sheet rock and spackle.
You can probably find a handyman on craigslist to do this entire job for $100 plus the cost of parts.

We have this, and it works well. Same thing, though we just have one unit.

I would be concerned that the siding wouldn't quite match and look cheesy. Not that the existing siding is that old, but still the sun wears at it so it may look too "clean" where we patch it. I'd rather wait until we are ready to reside the whole thing one day. I mean, maybe we can try it, but I may just go with one of those covers for a little while. I'm in no rush. Probably wouldn't be the biggest priority in the house, we have to get the basement done for our offices and they gym. We can always try what you mention and if it doesn't work we can redo the whole thing later.
