Cow Milk

When did you introduce it?

Jordana will be 1 in 2 weeks.

My milk supply is going down so fast. I am just not satisfying Jordana anymore nursing in the AM and right before bed. So I thought I would supplement with cow's milk.

I already spoke with my doctor about this a few weeks ago, and she said it was fine. I just wanted to find out what other people did.

Thanks!

Re: Cow Milk

I actually started to introduce it an oz a week about 5.5 weeks ago because I was worried he was going to give me hard time about the switch. He notices when something is up with his bottle right away. And as of this past Tuesday or Wed. he has been completely on whole milk and has been fine. I would have kept mixing the formula and milk until he was one but he dropped the afternoon bottle so he was down to 2 bottles a day and this week he was only getting 2 oz of formula in each bottle. Each can of
RTF formula is $5.99 and only last 2 days so it was a complete waste for me. I wish he would drink the powder but he wont.

I think you can definitly switch her now or at least start introducing it and maybe mixing it with your BM.

Re: Cow Milk

I stopped nursing at 10 1/2 months b/c she really wasn't interested anymore and I felt like I had barely any milk left anyway.
My doc said to start cow's milk at 11 months, I started about a week earlier, no problems.
Although she wouldn't drink it unless I put strawberry syrup in it!

Re: Cow Milk

DS was BF and I went to whole milk at 11 month. Pretty much cold turkey because I wasn't nursing and couldn't pump anymore.

My DD is on formula and I am gradually making the switch over at 11 months too.

Re: Cow Milk

i started olivia at 11.5 months. the way you transition is

3/4 bm 1/4 whole milk for 5 days
then 1/2 bm 1/4 wm for 5 days
1/4 bm 3/4 wm for 5 days
full milk

this also helps take the stress off of nursing becuase its supplementing without supplementing.

fm if you have any questions.

Re: Cow Milk

We started introducing it about a month before Alex's first birthday... we had to slow down at first because her body had to adjust - the first time we gave her a little too much and she had bad gas, but after we started introducing it little by little, she got used to it, and adapted just fine.
