Coworkers Helping themselves to FOOD!!!!

I usually don't post on this board (although I should with all of the issues i've been having at my office!). A coworker bought me an amazing tub of Guacamole Dip on Monday. I forgot to take it home with me and when I came back into work today, it was not only opened but also half-eaten with little chip crumbs in it!!!! I am FURIOUS!!!! I brought money in to pay my coworker back and was so excited to bring my dip home. I know this is so petty and silly but I am so annoyed that I literally have tears burning my eyelids. Is this beyond rude?! I am ready to send out a mass, psychotic email about respecting other people's personal food and belongings but I don't want to seem crazy and petty...... Chat Icon

I will never understand how or why people do that!! If you didn't put it in the fridge, it's not yours! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Someone once opened my yogurt and I guess realized it wasn't theirs and just put it back. That annoyed me more then opening it which was probably an honest mistake.

Can you ask the office manager to send out an email without it being a big deal? Or maybe put a sign on the fridge.

TOTALLY!!! It's so ridiculous. Everyone knows that no one just puts food in there for others to eat it.

GRRRRRR!!!

DH has a similar problem in his office. But he's discovered that if he puts his food in a bag - any kind of bag - people usually leave it alone.

ETA: It's not petty! sometimes the idea of eating that food is what gets you through the day.

Re: Coworkers Helping themselves to FOOD!!!!

Thank you for your responses ladies. Chat Icon

I did confront a few people in the office and outright asked them if they ate it. It turns out, a very CLOSE coworker felt that he should help himself to it Chat Icon because (listen to this) - "I know xxx bought it for you to take home but you left it here so I figured you left it for us." I played the passive aggressive hand Chat Icon and said, well i'm glad that it was at least you because I spent all morning being furious and wondering what moron would touch someone else's food!!!! Chat Icon

good for you!!!

i'm skeptical of his reasoning though. my guess (not knowing him at all) is that he thought "i'm hungry, what can i eat? oh, this is ana's she won't mind" then when you minded he made it up, but hey. hopefully he won't do it again, and at least the mystery is solved Chat Icon

Re: Coworkers Helping themselves to FOOD!!!!

When I was working, every Friday was bagel day. One Friday one of my friends was toasting her bagel and she walked away for a minute and when she got back, it was gone. It was taken by someone who was notorious for stealing other peoples food. I don't remember if she confronted her or not, but that was just a ballzy move.

Also I once left a Snapple in the fridge that I share with a few people in my department. When I went to get it, it was gone. I was so pizzed. The next time I left a bottle in the fridge, I made sure that I spat into it. If someone is going to take my food or drink, well they're just going to get a little surprise Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
