CPA exam prep

Anyone here sit for the CPA exam or plan on taking any of the sections in the next year?

What method of studying did you use? Self-study @ home; class room prep; CD/Online prep?

I want to see if my Job can help pay for the exam & prep classes...but if not i may need to either study at home on my own with text materials or via an online/dvd course. Just don't want to spend $2K for a class; or $1k for prep CD's. If my job can't pay for it; i'll be getting a $100 review book and studying on my own...just want to see if this way can be successful!

TIA!!

Re: CPA exam prep

I sat for the CPA exam years ago, when it was the old format.

I was a campus rep for either Becker or Conviser Duffy ( it's been so long I can't remember!!) and therefore, got the review classes for free.

I attended all the classes, did the homework, made flash cards, etc. I also had a CD from my employer at the time who offered CPA exam help.

Honestly, you get out of it what you put into it. If you use the materials you can afford to purchase, then you should be fine.

I was luck enough to pass 3 parts on my first try and the 4th part I failed by 4 points. But that failure was in the subject area I didn't put my time and effort into.

If you have any questions, FM me! Good luck!!!!!

Thanks!!

I really wish my current job could help pay for it; but i may just bite the bullet and pay the $1,500 for a review course. It's seems worth it considering any potential income/salary increase i get by new jobs with a CPA title. Now it's just a matter of finding the time to commit!

I took a Becker course, but also used discs with practice questions (forget the company). I found using the discs with practice questions more beneficial to me than the classes. I work better on my own!

Good Luck!

THANKS!! I can save $500 by doing just the dvd course through Yaegar which includes the text books; and test bank software

Re: CPA exam prep

My firm paid for my course and my exam--I did Becker Conviser. I highly recommend taking a course, it will be worth the cost.

Re: CPA exam prep

I used the Becker Course CDs. I really liked how I could repeat the lectures from the more difficult sections (can't do that in a live classroom). They Cds also had tons of review questions and practice simulations. It cost me about $1,500 but it was worth every penny. I passed all four sections on the first try.
