I believe the school district will do their evaluations and determine if a child is eligible.
This is how it was presented to us by EI. EI covers until 3. Then the school disctricts takes over after 3. They do their own evaluations.

You must call your school district to be directed to the department who does CPSE.
You have to register with the school district like you would if you were for kinderarten. YO uwill have a meeting and then you will have to find an aency who can do the evaluations for you...
That is what we did in Nassau... Jacob turned 3 in SEptember so I started the process in March of last year because all the meetins had to be done by May for the next school year... Keep that in mind..

IIRC one of your boys is already receiving speech right? Is that through EI? If so, EI will transition him to CPSE and you don't need to do anything. If not, then like the AP said, just call the special education dept. of your district. Their number is probably on their website.

Aeriell - I will call you at a normal hour, but if they are in EI, you have the option of staying with EI after their 3rd bday - not sure how it works in Queens, but in LI, a parent can opt to keep their child in EI until August after their 3rd bday....
You should have an EI coordinator who helps navigate you through this a little as well....
