Cpse transition
Hi, I have a 2 yo son with cp and a severe speech delay and we have the option of transitioning him to cpse early which we are inclined to do - he is a triplet and his huge list of in home therapies (10 per week) are taking me away too much from his brothers, plus I think he really needs a classroom environment. I am looking to put the three of then in an integrated program. I was told because if his birthday, I could send him in January when he is 2.5. But all the center based programs I am looking at say they start at 3. I am so confused. Would they accept a 2.5 yo? Anyone btdt? I know many people opt to stay with EI as long as possible but we have a unique situation. Thansk!

Are you looking at the information on their websites or speaking to someone at these schools? Maybe they will take your son if he will be turning 3 that same year.

Re: Cpse transition
My son started in a center based program while he was in EI. If they will take him at 2.5, I would send him since they will probably have a sensory gym and possibly other things that he might benefit from that you can't do with him at home - like the PT could bring him to the playground, ride a tricycle or walk in the hallways - lots more space for sessions; more kids to interact with for speech, etc.

Cpse transition
The sooner you do everything in this process the better! I recently went through it so it's fresh in my mind. The CPSE meeting can be scheduled a couple of months down the line, so get in touch with your district. (Although not sure if this can be done in the summer?) I'm sure EI will advise you on the steps you need to take. If there is a school you are interested in, I don't think you have to wait to for the district to send your packet to the school - you may be able to schedule a tour so you can check it out ahead of time and get a feel for the school.

Re: Cpse transition
We are in a center based program through EI which started at 18 months. Some places only do center based through CPSE which is typically 3 years old. But if they are in CPSE most will take them. It's usually a matter of payment issues. The closest center based for me does not do it through EI, only through CPSE. So I was told once he is first eligible at 2.5 to transition we can switch to them if we switch to CPSE. I know each place is different but usually it they are willing to take it through CPSE they know the age limits. With us, we won't transition to CPSE till after the summer because with our CPSE we would lose services in the summer. With EI they continue through the summer.
