This is horrible
Crews are responding to the scene of a crane collapse at a construction site on E. 91st St. and 1st Ave. The crane was approximately 10-stories high, and there are reports of major structural damages to an occupied apartment building. It is unknown how many people are trapped in the rubble. 1st avenue is closed at this time. We will advise on traffic for the rush hour if there is an impact.

very sad. one news outlet said that the city just suspended a rule that crane inspectors don't have to be on site when they are erected or jumped any longer. you would think after the March incident they'd make inspections more stringent!

One of the poor victims was two weeks away from being married. That poor woman and both families. Such a horrible thing.

Really? That is so infuriating and obviously to the detriment of the poor people who were affected or lost their lives as a result of today's collapse. How could the "powers that be" who are in place justify making that decision? My heart aches for these people and their families.
