Crashing - hoping for some insight...high prolactin/irregular AF
Hi Ladies,
You all seem so knowledgeable I figured you might be able to steer me in the right direction.
I have an 11 month old DS, conceived naturally, had 2 m/cs before him, both were for different reasons, early on, miscarried naturally...no D&C needed. Before DS I always had a regular AF, ranged from 28-33 days.
Since having DS, my period wasn't returning, I wasn't BFing so it should have returned after 6 weeks. After 3 months my prolactin was still elevated (49), normal should be 0-30, my OB said to wait a bit longer, 3 months later with still no period she drew blood and the prolactin was still elevated. She prescribed Provera to see if it would jumpstart things and referred me to an endocrinologist.
Provera worked, in October I got a withdrawal bleed. A month later, 28 days after that, I got my first period and I saw an endo as well and my prolactin somehow had dropped to 35, I was sent for an MRI and there is no tumor on my pituitary gland, he also looked at my thyroid and did a sonogram and saw a few tiny nodules (less than a cm), thyroid levels all normal. In December, AF came again after 29 days but in January it took 40 days to come. February it was 28 days and I am still waiting for AF to come this month, I'm on CD35.
My prolactin was tested again in February and it's 33, but now my TSH is borderline overactive (I have absolutely NO symptoms). The endo doesn't want to give me meds since my pro seems to be dropping on it's own and he wants me to go for repeat bloodwork to see if my Thyroid is in fact hyperactive or if the blood test was a fluke.
I'm worried that I'm not ovulating since my period is like this and my prolactin is still elevated. We want to TTC for #2 and The dr. would rather I don't go on meds and try to conceive on my own.
Would you see another Dr.? or does this sound normal that he would rather see if my body bounces back without meds?

Re: Crashing - hoping for some insight...high prolactin/irregular AF
Have you ever spoken to your doctor about having PCOS? I had high prolactin levels, I was on parlodel to lower my levels. And I know it can mess with all kinds of hormones. That's why it's so hard to diagnose, there are so many things that can be a symptom of PCOS.
I hope you find answers soon!

Thanks for responding, I don't have PCOS. The drs think my hormones got wacky after having DS and my body is taking a long time to readjust on it's own. The dr. mentioned parlodel if my prolactin doesn't go back down to normal soon.
