Crate and Barrel Furniture
I know I asked this before, but I'm hoping to get some more responses....does anyone have any opinions/reviews on the ready to assemble line at crate and barrel?
TIA!

Re: Crate and Barrel Furniture
I have a coffee table and end table from C and B. It definitely was easy to assemble - I assembled the end table by myself. I like the style and they seem pretty durable.
We had bought really nice (and not cheap!!) coffee and end tables from Fortunoff and they wound up being defective pieces of C R A P. I bought these tables to replace them because they were inexpensive and I figured why spend a fortune.
I would definitely reccomend them for the price.

Re: Crate and Barrel Furniture
Just ordered a sofa (pre-assembled) and a bed (easy-to-assemble) from C&B last night. They arrive next week...I can give you my review then
Honestly, I haven't come across many negatives about the quality/company.

Re: Crate and Barrel Furniture
We have a leaning desk and leaning shelf. DH had no problems assembling it and he raved how much easier it was than IKEA furniture because it's not c.r.a.p.
It seems very sturdy and of great quality.
ETA: The saleswoman told me that when you are screwing and you hit resistance, stop. Do not overtighten. Common sense, I know but she made a point to say it so I guess it's important.

Re: Crate and Barrel Furniture
I put together a dresser, nighstand and coffee table
very easy- unlike ikea
very good quality- survived 2 moves
the china cabinet was harder for me- it had ikea like directions and parts
but it is still very good quality

Re: Crate and Barrel Furniture
We ordered some ready-to-assemble bookshelves and had some issues with the quality. (There were small but noticeable chips in the wood.) They gave us replacements with absolutely no hassle.

Re: Crate and Barrel Furniture
We have lots of C&B in our home and we have no complaints at all. All fairly easy to assemble, good quality and have survived multiple moves. We have leaning bookcases, the madison table, madison buffet, madison wine tower and a couple of other pieces.....we love em all!

Re: Crate and Barrel Furniture
we bought a glass / steel desk, console, and matching steel file cabinets from CB2, their modern furniture online store, and I must say the quality was very good, and it was pretty straight forward to assemble...

Re: Crate and Barrel Furniture
We have a C&B sofa sleeper, loveseat and chair and ottoman and I love them! They of course were not pieces we assembled, but the quality is excellent. 7 years old and looking great still.

Re: Crate and Barrel Furniture
Smartmoney Magazine ran an article in the Fall of '06 and they said C&B, Restoration Hardware, and Pottery Barn furniture was not all that good for the price. Thinner than average veneers (though I think C&B claimed they were increasing the thickness they use), particle board instead of hardwoods, cheaper supports for upholstered furniture, etc. They actually cut the furniture in half and investigated it. Some items sold as solid wood were veneers. They were not all that impressed. That said, a lot of people do seem to be happy with their purchases.
