credit card questions & advice.
1. How many is too many? I feel like a I have a lot, but I only use 2 of them.
2. If I have a blances on a Credit Card in my name, can I transfer the balance to a Credit Card in my husbands name? probably not, right?

Re: credit card questions & advice.
My husband and I have transfered balances between our cards so I don't think you would have a problem doing that. As long as they get paid, cc companies usually don't care where it comes from.

Yes you can transfer balances to a card with your husbands name.

Re: credit card questions & advice.
you can run your credit report to find out where you have open cards, and the addresses. then you can request or cancel any you don't use. it can start to affect your credit if there are high spending limits and you have a lot of credit available to you. but honestly, that doesn't affect your credit a whole lot. it's just "safer" to have less cards.

What would you say is a lot? If it helps any, I have 4 - 3 majors and one store card. If you find yourself getting into the position where you're applying for every cc offer you get to see if you'll get accepted (my MIL does this and gets SO excited when they offer her a card and has to tell DH and I about it ) then that's another story.

It's actually better to pay off debt rather than moving it around. You also shouldn't close unused cards as a short-term strategy to raise your FICO score. Owing the same amount but having fewer open accounts may lower your score.
