Re: Credit Score Question...

I think if you have 700 and above you should have no problems with mostly anything. But I would consider above 650 fairly good for most things. Just my opinion from what I have read and experienced.

Re: Credit Score Question...

ok I just checked mine and it says that I have 730.. so I guess that great. I beleive that is good. I think to have excellent credit your score would have to be 850. I just wanted to be sure.. we're about to look into getting pre-approved. thanks!

I went to experian.com and got it there.. there are other websites that you could get it from.. but I don't trust it.

How do you go about improving your credit score?

Improving your credit score takes time and there is no quick fix to the situation. The best thing to do is to properly manage your credit responsibly over time.

Here are some suggestions that could help in improving your credit score:

You should try to pay your bills on time as late payments and collections can have a negative impact on your score.

Pay balances down as this will help in reducing your debt to income ratio. Also try to keep your balances within 50% of the credit limit as this can help to increase your score.

Try to get current and stay current with Imissed payments, as the longer you pay your bills on time, the more your score will increase.

Avoid taking on any new debt as all the new inquiries will appear on your credit report along with any new debt. In both instances it can decrease your score.

Fair Isaac and Company list these examples of ways to increase and decrease a FICO score:

How to increase your FICO score:

By paying your bills on time for 6 months you could raise your FICO almost 20 points.

By paying down the balances on your credit cards by 34% you could raise your FICO score almost 20 points.

How to decrease your FICO score:

By missing the due date on your credit card monthly payments you could decrease your FICO score between 75 to 125 points.

Credit cards that are maxed out to the limit could decrease your FICO score between 20 to 70 points.

Re: Credit Score Question...

also,do not believe that paying someone to fix your credit will work.. it's an absolute lie and whoever is telling you that they can help you is a crook! like the above poster said.. the only way you can improve your cedit is apying your bills on time.. and the only thing that will help you is TIME. take it from me.. just about 3 years ago. I had the worst credit ever.. i'm talking in the mid 300's! and I got my act together and paid all my bills on time and wiped off my debt. but before I wiped off my debt.. I paid my bills on time by leaving that balance and paying it on time. and after a while I just paid it off. and nowI have a credit score of 730!

trust me.. you will get there.. at that time I had every bill that I ever owed in collections! that's how irresponsible i was.. I never told my mother.. b/c when I was growing up she always preached to me how important credit was and if you have bad credit you cant get anything i.e. a house or car.. not even a job. so I was afraid to tell her. I almost came close to paying a crook to "fix my credit" and I quickly realized that this is not possible.. this person only wanted my $600. just be sure to pay your bills on time and and when you're balance is small then pay it off.
