creepy stuff - computer ?

i don't know a whole lot about computers, but i know someone on here has to. i suspect that someone i know and do not like has accessed my email or a friend's that i email with frequently. one is a work acct and one is not.

can ppl really do this? and, what can be done to ensure this can't happen?

very creepy.

Does your computer store your passwords? I would suggest going into both accounts and changing the password.

As far as work email goes - basically anybody who works with the netork (IT people) would probably be able to access your email.

As far as personal - I don't know. I would change your password asap.

For the work account, an email administrator at your company can look at your email at any time - regardless of what password you set.

For the personal account, you can only access it if you have the password.

If the person is at your job & in IT, then bring it up to HR.

I would change my password immediately - and make it something complicated - with letters & numbers. If you're not good at remembering passwords, you can always make it a word & subsitute letters for numbers, ie using "0" for "O", "4" for h, etc.

eta. if you access your personal account from work, they should be able to see what you're accessing as well - email AND IMs.

Re: creepy stuff - computer ?

this is not someone i work with at all, nor does the other person work with them. so, it's not a case of an it person abusing privilege.

we know for a fact that this person accessed one of our emails a few years ago from a third party, but never knew how. something has happened recently that leads us to beleive it has happened again.

i periodically change my passwords, as does the other person, for this very reason.... but i will definitely be doing it again now.

thx for your comments!
