Crib and Pet Question
does anyone know if they make some type of protector for bassinets/cribs to prevent cats from jumping in it?

Re: Crib and Pet Question
you could get the kid screen netting, this keeps the kids in when they are a little older, but I would imagine it would help to keep the cats out.

Re: Crib and Pet Question
There is a netting but our vet told us not to use it - just to keep them out of the nursery. Our vet said that she has heard of a lot of cats who try to jump into the crib and get caught in the netting and injured. We have two cats so this was a concern for us as well. We are trying to train them to stay out of our bedroom now which is hard b.c they are very attached to us.

Re: Crib and Pet Question
I have also heard that when you set up the crib to put a layer of tin foil underneath the blanket. Cats do not like crinkly stuff so usually after one or two attempts they will no longer want to jump in the crib. Then once they learn not to go in there you can take the tinfoil out before the baby comes home. I heard you can also do this for dressers, changing tables...etc if you don't want them up there.

Re: Crib and Pet Question
my mom did this for my brother and i when we were born... put up a screen door on the babies room,in place of the regular wooden door, that way no cat in the room and you can still have the "door open "

Re: Crib and Pet Question
We have a cat and after not going anywhere near the nursery for weeks, he decided the crib was his new bed and DH found him sleeping in there one night. Now we have a very tall baby gate in the doorway of the nursery (our cat can't jump over it). Other advice I've read is to put contact paper or cardboard with tape (sticky side up) on the surfaces you want the cats to stay away from. After jumping up and getting something stuck to their paws a few times, they are supposed to not want to jump up there anymore. DH's friend also recommended putting tin foil underneath the crib sheet. He did this and it worked for him because the tin foil sound scared the cats. HTH.

Re: Crib and Pet Question
Just an FYI because the thread is called "Crib and Pet Question." If you have a small dog, consider one of the bassinets that is a little bit higher than the rest. I know that a cat can jump and probably get into any of them. But I have a dachshund and I think that a few more inches on a bassinet is going to help.
These are the things we sometimes don't realize until after we purchase something. For example, our patio table is high up, with chairs that are the height of bar stools. We bought it only because we liked it, but it worked out great because our dog can grab things off a regular table, but not off of our patio table.
I saw one model of bassinet that is at least 6-8 inches taller than the others.
