Crib Mattress???

What kind of mattress did you get for your DC's crib?

We ended up buying one at BBB. They were out of stock on a lot of the mid-priced mattresses, so we ended up buying a so-called "better mattress" (according to the sales associate). It's firm and waterproof and it cost us $200+. Chat Icon The thing weighs a ton! I'm a "big" girl and I struggle with trying to change the crib sheets (I don't know how a petite person would do it.)

DD doesn't seem to be too fond of the mattress because it's too firm. I think she's used to the softness of her bassinet mattress since I can only get her to nap/sleep in the crib for 20 minutes at a time (I keep trying to get her used to it, but she ain't having it.)

Anyway, we were at BRU the other day and I was checking out their mattresses. They had a softer (and lighter) Sealy mattress for a fraction of the price that we paid.

Do you think I should purchase the softer mattress? (I'm actually considering getting it just b/c it's lighter for me to lift)
or
keep trying to get DD to sleep on the firm mattress?

I don't have much experience with this but, if you want the new mattress for the weight, then get it, otherwise, I think DD will get used to it. JMO It might be just because the crib is a much bigger open space and she is used to her cuddly bassinett. Try laying her width ways instead of long ways.

I don't know much about them. We got one that was recommended in Baby Bargains. I think it was around $80 at Babies R Us. Pretty sure it's a Sealy. It's kind of a blue checked design.

That was the one I was looking at!!!!

Well, I bought a crib mattress pad. I'll see if that helps, but I think in the long run I'll be buying the Sealy (just b/c it's easier to lift!)

She'll go down initially, but I noticed in the bassinet she likes to grab the sheets. With the mattress I have now b/c it's so stiff/firm she's unable to do that.

I can't lay her width wise b/c she's too long already. I need to get her out of her bassinet b/c she's definitely outgrowing it!!! Chat Icon

Re: Crib Mattress???

I got the colgate one - the baby bargains book recommends it and its easy to move and very firm. Now if I could only get DD to stay in her crib at night and actually enjoy it!!

I have two crib mattresses from BBB too, and we got a Colgate one that was about $180. One is in the crib and one is in the toddler bed for Andrew. While it is on the heavier side, both have slept really well on it. It may not be the fact its so firm, its just that the huge crib might be a big adjustment from the tiny bassinet. It can't hurt to try the lighter one though. I agree they are a PITA to change. I have to remove the bumpers from teh crib too and with 8 ties on each of the four sides, it takes forever!
