Cribs

DH and I looked at some cribs today. We really like the cribs that have a changing table attached (think they're called combos?) We didn't see a lot of them though and none of them had dressers that matched. I can't believe they aren't more popular Chat Icon

So what crib do you prefer- with attached changing table or without?

Without, because it looked too small like baby would grow out of it fast. So I bought a dresser and a pad to go on top.

Re: Cribs

Without - we added a changing pad on top of the dresser area. I don't foresee us using it that often either, and like the flexibility of having the crib be able to grow with the baby (change into toddler bed, etc.)

Without. Our crib converts into a full size bed. You also won't use the changing table for long and they will be in a crib longer than you use the changing table. Even at a year your baby is too big for a changing table. Or won't stay still up there.

We have the Bellini furniture with the removable changing table on top of the dresser.

exactly

For DS and this LO we got convertible cribs, they convert to toddler and then full size beds.

Without, in theory the combo look like a good idea but I could not imagine changing a toddler on that little table. We are getting and dresser with the changing pad on top

Also, I read somewhere that those types of cribs aren't recommended due to the fact that it is easy for toddlers to pull themselves up onto it, and stand on it with the possibility of falling off.

Without for 2 reasons: I don't like changing the baby in that forward-facing position. I just have a dresser with a changing pad on top as my changing table. it works just fine.
The other reason is that you're going to have a dresser in the room anyway, so why waste space with a changing table when you can have a nicer convertible crib?

I have a crib and then a separate changing table. I like having the changing table because everything I need (diapers, towels, lotions, and anything else I need) is in it. Also, DS is 1.5 right now and I use his changing table every day. When DS2 arrives, I will be moving the changing table to his room. Both rooms have big closets, so I only chose to get one dresser each an got a tall one, so putting a pad wouldn't have worked for me.

It's all up to you and what you think your needs will be. I would stay away from a combo for the following reasons-
Cribs are smaller
LO might use the changer to escape the crib and potentially fall
Your LO might outgrow the changer before the crib, which would make the changer useless for a while
Your LO can never grow with the bed - most cribs these days turn into full headboards (though I don't know if I want my boys in full beds right away!)

Good luck!

Re: Cribs

Good points girls- thanks for the input! I see why they haven't really gained popularity. We did see a set in Behr's that we liked without the attached changing table. We almost went and ordered it today lol

Without. Any friend I know who has one has told me it is a waste of time and money. They told me you will be changing the baby everywhere else but the changing table. I registered for a changing pad that attached to the dresser.

We have it with and are very happy with it. DD has a smaller room so it has allowed us to make better use of the space. There's enough room to change her on the side or from the front and when she gets big enough, we'll just block the shelf on the side so she doesn't climb up.
