Cross Post - Overweight and TTC
Hi Girls....posted this in the TTC group but I would love your input too!! Thanks!!!
I am curious as to how many of you are trying to get pregnant although you may have some weight to lose. I'm not at my ideal weight right now but I'm dying to get pregnant. My head tells me to continue to lose weight first but my heart just wants to jump in and get pregnant asap!!
I've been eating very healthy lately, I'm taking prenatal vitamins, I'm exercising and losing weight too but I just am not sure if I should worry about trying to conceive right now. I'm confused.
How many of you are TTC even though you have weight to lose. Of those they may have had the experience before did you find that you had a healthy pregnancy? Just wondering. I want to do the right thing here but you guys know how it is. Thanks for any input!!

Re: Cross Post - Overweight and TTC
I was overweight when I was TTCing and I am overweight now while pregnant.
I have had no problems due to my weight so far. When I was TTCing I brought it up to my doctor and she said, "overweight people have healthy babies everyday."
I hope to lose a lot of weight before #2, bc I can tell you that going for shopping for maternity clothes has been very depressing!

I couldn't have said it any better.
I was in the process of losing weight and had inferitlity issues as well. Once my Dr gave me a green light to have a baby, we went for it, not knowing how long the door would remain open.

Re: Cross Post - Overweight and TTC
I am overweight, but decided not to wait any longer because of my age. If I had to do it over, I would have tried harder to drop some weight before getting pregnant, but even more I wish I had been exercising more regularly and continued.
I am healthy, had no trouble conceiving, and my doctor is not concerned, but as someone else said, shopping for maternity clothes has been a challenge.

I am overweight and had no problem getting PG. My doctor didn't seem very concerned so I decided not to be either. I would do what you feel is right for yourself. Good Luck!

Re: Cross Post - Overweight and TTC
I was overweight when I got pg despite exercising and dieting. Something with my thyroid but I don't think it hindered us in any way. That being said, shopping for maternity clothes is a huge let down like the girls said.

Re: Cross Post - Overweight and TTC
I am not PG nor TTC just yet so I am not sure if you would think my opinion counts....but I did see my obgyn a few months ago and she told me all the things I have to do prior like take pre-natals, etc. She never mentioned one thing about my weight - and I am at least 100lbs overweight.
So although I think we will be okay medically, it might not feel that good physically you know what I mean? Its going to be hard to find clothes, etc.

Re: Cross Post - Overweight and TTC
Loosing weight is a good thing. If you want to have a baby now I say go for it as long as your OB doesn't feel there are any medical reasons not to.
I am overweight and had two very healthy pg. I gained 18lbs with my first and 30lbs with my second. I would have liked to loose weight before I got pg mostly bc there would have been more maternity options. A little shallow, but it was frustrating shopping for plus sized maternity clothes sometimes.
Good Luck

Re: Cross Post - Overweight and TTC
i'm a lovely plus sized lady and I had no problems getting pregnant, I had a wonderful pregnancy and a wonderful birth experience. I gained 2.2 lbs with my pregnancy (I had no appetite whatsoever) and the week after I gave birth to my son, I had to go out and buy size 16 jeans! Unheard of.

Re: Cross Post - Overweight and TTC
Not sure if this helps, but I was overweight when TTC and while PG with both baby # 1 and 2.
Before I got PG this time, I had lost a LOT of weight, and was finally at my goal weight and size. Its been SO depressing to watch my scale creep back up week by week, and watch all that hard work go down the drain. I know I can and will lose the weight again, but when I think about it, I sometimes wish I had just waited to lose all that weight until we were done having babies.
Basically, I say go for it
