Cross Post from Relationships-Parenting Related, I think?

My DH and BIL have planned this hiking trip on part of the Appalachin Train. They will start in GA and end up in Northern NC-we live just outside of Raleigh. They have no experience hiking this magnitude, the most they have hiked is 6 miles. They would have to hike 10 miles per day to do this in 10 days. The hike is up and down through the mountains and is part of National Park land. There are shelters every so often but would mostly be sleeping in tents.

We will have twin almost 2 year olds. So far my feeling is happiness that he could do something like this for himself and worry about what could happen. What would you say to your DH if he wanted to do this?

Sounds aggressive for novice hikers-I would be worried and I'm usually relaxed about this stuff.

If he refuses to hear the voice of reason and scale back the trip a bit, I would tell him he can only go if he signs a big a$$ insurance policyChat Icon

Have him read "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer

If he were a single man, I'd say go for it. But he's a husband and a father, and he needs to be responsible with his life. Too many things can go wrong. It's not a smart choice.

Besides the fact that I wouldn't want to be alone for 10 days!Chat Icon
