cruise vacation

Not preggo yet, but I wanted to see if anyone has had experience with going on a cruise while pregnant?
We have a family cruise planned for June, and we are just starting to TTC this month - so I could possibly be 2, 3 or 4 months preggo at that time.

Thanks for any experience or feedback!Chat Icon

Re: cruise vacation

I went on a cruise right after thanksgiving - and had a blast - my OB cleared me to go - I was 9/10 weeks. We had the best time ever - lots of frozen virgin drinks and relaxation. We left from San Juan so it was really smooth until the last day (at sea) but I was fine and had such a great time. I did have some food aversions but it didn't effect my cruise I just avoided those items - they have a huge selection so that shouldn't be a problem.

Just a warning cruiselines have a cutoff I think it is 25 or 26 weeks so if you might be close to that be sure to check your cruiseline's policy.

If you are in the first trimester you might not want to go on one that is too rough if you think you might have issues with motion sickness - since that with morning sickness could ruin the trip. Make sure to ask your doctor what they recommend you do if you get motion sickness (there isn't much) but your OB might have some helpful suggestions. Also try to get a room in the middle of the ship on a lower floor where there is less motion.

Etd to add you might want to ask your OB about what shore excursions you should avoid - i.e. scuba diving, wave runners, 4x4's, and horseback riding are probably out - but you can definitely snorkle and there are tons of things that you can do.

Re: cruise vacation

I can only tell you that from my experience with morning sickness I could not even have THOUGHT about going 10 mins from my house, let alone on a cruise... I was sooooooooo sick and sooooooooooo tired... but each pregnancy is different.. I think its just a gamble...

It's funny, I had (have) horrible m/s and I was thinking this sounded NICE! I mean, I have to commute 2 hours per day on a bus, so I guess being on a cruise ship (where I have never really felt that much movement) on a vacation sounds really good to me right now!

I agree that it is a crapshoot though. But I know plenty of people who have vacationed in early pregnancy and loved it.

Re: cruise vacation

I think it depends on the person....personally I had no MS at all Chat Icon & would have loved to go on a cruise, we're going away in a few weeks & I can't wait. A cruise should be fine & think of all the $ you'll save on drinks Chat Icon

You just MAY be really tired though, so you may miss out on the late shows & MAY prefer the earlier seating...

Re: cruise vacation

I went on a cruise last year at three months. I was fine but also had a perfect pregnancy. I am supposed to go on a cruise in July with my job. I am nervous because I will be much further along, and I haven't even told my job yet.Chat Icon

Re: cruise vacation

Cruises are great vacations while your PG, but I would say it's better in your 2nd trimester.
