Re: cruises... sea sickness???
I went on a cruise in November and I only felt sick for the day that we were only at sea (not stopping at any ports). The water was actually a bit choppy. I took Dramamine and was fine after that.

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
the key is to take Dramamine BEFORE you even step in the boat.
My DH and I went on a crusie in October and we both started taking Dramamine 2 days before we left for the cruise and we were fine.

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
I get incredibly motion sick. I was fine on a really big cruise ship. We were on a smaller one and ran into some rough waters and I felt a little sick twice but it wasn't that bad.

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
i get sea sick, but I'm fine on the big cruise ships. I don't really like to take dramamine, or bonine(sp?), but I bring the sea bands with me just in case. I have yet to use them on a cruise.

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
I don't get seasick but have heard that the dramaine ore the seabands work wonders. I would advice getting a room with a window or even a balcony. Whenever you feel sick, they tell you to go outside to a higher deck & get air.
When we were on our HM, we hit some rough waters outside Puerto Rico where you could see the ship literally swaying but unless you focused on it, you were ok.

For me it does. A balcony is even better because there is air but that is a lot more $$.

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
DH and I got those motion sickness things to stick behind our ears. Our last cruise was in when hurricane katrina hit so you can imagine to "choppiness" of the water... it was insane. But we were Ok with those patches.... also, try to get a room as high as you can and right in the middle of the boat - no window. THose usually feel the least rocking if there's any.

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
Dh has bad motion sickness and has to take dramamine to take the catamaran tours. He has never gotten sick on the three cruises I have taken him on - I would get a window at the very least or better a balcony. My mom has terrible motion sickness and has gone on I think about 20 something cruises - when the weather gets really bad she has taken a dramamine - but out of those 20 some odd cruises - she has had to take maybe 4 pills total. She says get a balcony MID ship - also lower the room and dead center have the least motion - do NOT get a room far forward or aft as you will feel the motion the most from those rooms. Honestly most of the time esp on the larger ships you don't feel the motion at all.

I get car sick and am fine when we go on a cruise.
Best place for your room is in the middle of the boat, and get a balcony.
The only time I really notice the boat moving is when we were in an enclosed room, watching a show or something. But it wasn't bad at all.
Get the balcony so you can sit out there if your not feeling good. I find it helps to actually look at the water when you feel the boat moving.

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
I have never been on a cruise but Danielle and I would like to go one one. SHe has been to Bermuda on a cruise and was fine. I get motion sickness but when I have it I will use the bracelets, and also Ginger Pills. They are natural, do the same thing as Dramamine and Bonine, and it does not make you sleepy or drowsy. With the ginger pills I drink Ginger ale. Every plane ride and every car ride I have been fine as long as I have the bracelets and the ginger. Scott

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
I've been on 2 cruises and will never go on one again (b/c of the sea sickness). Happily, DH has no desire to ever go on a cruise.
I was very sea sick on both cruises. I took dramamine, which helped, but it made me very drowsy. I took bonine on one of the cruises b/c it's not supposed to make you drowsy, but it wasn't as effective as dramamine. On one of the cruises, the waters were pretty rough one day and the dramamine didn't really help.

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
My sister and mother get very sea sick. They take Dramamine but if that doesn't work, the ships Dr gives them some sort of shot and it works like a dream. A balcony is def worth the money. I would never go on a cruise without one. We sleep with the door open. It is beautiful!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to go. 98 more days

That's what I did...I still felt a little lightheaded for the first day but then it was better. Make sure to get the non drowsy dramamine though.

It worked for my sister and my mother. I think they got a little tired but nothing drastic.

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
We just came back from a cruise. My DH gets seasick & usually will take Dramamine when he goes Fishing but this time I had a script for the patch for him plus I brought Bonine (which doesn't make you tired) just in case but the patch was GREAT!!!!
Can't wait to go again!

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
I know you already got tons of answers, but I just wanted to let you know that I get very car sick and most of the time I can't even sit in the back seat. I have never been seasick though.
I know the sea bands have worked for a lot fo people I know. We always bring them just in case.
I love cruising, we booked a cruise for March!

Re: cruises... sea sickness???
I get terrible motion sickness and can not go on cruises. The one cruise I went on was such a waste b/c I was just sick in my bed the whole time. I couldn't wait to dock each day. I got vertigo and was sweating, vomiting etc. Years later when I was in Hawaii, I got so ill on a catamaran they had to dump gallons of ice water over my head. I will never, ever go on a boat again.
