Crying in sleep.
My DD will be 8 mths next week and last night she was crying in her sleep, not just a whiny cry but sobbing she was sleeping with us of course and both DH and I woke up and nearly started crying ourselves
She was sobbing but didnt wake up and this happened twice last night and lasted for a few minutes each time. They were sobs where you catch your breath if you know what I mean...
What do you think causes this?
I didnt wake her up just cuddled her and spoke softly to her telling her it was okay..my poor baby...

Re: Crying in sleep.
Luka does that sometimes but in screams instead and then goes back to sleep it last a few seconds. I also do not wake him up. I have no idea what it is, I can't imagine they have dreams yet.

Re: Crying in sleep.
Do you think she would have night terrors at this young age? What could be scaring her? Its not a wind pain as she has those but they are shrieks but this is like a really sad sobbing cry....breaks my heart...maybe she is a very emotional child. She was laughing in her sleep when she was only a couple of weeks old so maybe she is just expressive!!

Re: Crying in sleep.
check that the nasal passages are clear - there is a link between mouth breathers and night terrors
a true night terror - the person does not know what they are seeing - they aren't set off my watching scary things- there is a difference between nightmares( you remember when you wake - usually from watching or hearing something)

Re: Crying in sleep.
My DS did this and still does to this day...He's 2 now...I attributed it to bad dreams.

Re: Crying in sleep.
Thank you I think you might have hit something with the nasal passages thing as DD has had a stuffed nose for the past two days and has been acting off. She might have a cold I think.
Thanks for the info everyone

Re: Crying in sleep.
We still have this as well...I just cuddle her and tell her it's alright. She'll usually go back to sleep immediately.
Lately she's been talking in her sleep. Just last night she asked me (as her eyes were closed) "Look-look!! Do you see the moon??". I answered her "Yes, now go back to sleep".
