CSE/CPSE Parent Member?
I received a letter today asking me to be a parent volunteer for CSE/CPSE meetings in my son's district. I'm going to sign up, but I don't think I've ever been to a meeting where the parent volunteer actually spoke. Do they ever ask for your input or do you just speak up without being asked anything?

Re: CSE/CPSE Parent Member?
My cousin Michele does it...I could ask her.
Or better yet, she could ask her Nicholas for your phone number

Re: CSE/CPSE Parent Member?
We often have a parent member participate in our CSEs (I'm a special education teacher) and we have a wonderful one who does participate and help explain things to the parents when they are unsure of what it means exactly and offers great suggestions for compromises in certain situations. I think that it is a wonderful thing to do and am really happy that we have parents who volunteer to do this for our families!

Re: CSE/CPSE Parent Member?
i'm a spec. ed. teacher and i've had tons of meetings where the parent does both. some are very vocal and some quiet. i guess you just feel out the specific meeting.

It depends - I have been in some where a baboon would have been more useful, but there have been some meetings where the parent members were amazing and really helped the parents advocate and be educated!!!!!

Re: CSE/CPSE Parent Member?
Ive had both through the years...One woman had a daughter with Down Syndrome and she was great...
You know the funny thing is that they havent had one at my CSE meetings in the past few years...and noone has ever brought it up...I didnt even think about it until a neighbor called and asked me what it was all about b/c her son was new to the CSE thing..

I've been present at many a CSE and I agree 100% with Liza... sometimes it's a positive contribution and sometimes not so much.
