Cul-de-sac property shape

DH and I currently have our eye on a house that has all the bells and whistles that we're looking for. The only thing I don't like about it is the lot shape - it's odd and on an angle. I've noticed most of the properties we've seen on a cul-de-sac do have differently shaped property lines. Does anyone live on one and can you tell me if there are pros and cons to this or if I'm just overthinking it? I'm a person who likes symmetry in all things in life but I don't want this to stop us if it's truly a non-issue!

I only think its an issue if it doesn't provide you with a usable yard. If you have a good sized backyard, it wouldn't bother me that its not a rectangle.

I live on a cul-de-sac & everyone on the block has an odd shaped property. It doesn't bother me at all because the pro's out way the con's. You can't beat the privacy.

Re: Cul-de-sac property shape

I grew up on a cul-de-sac. The entrance to our driveway was at the dead end. Our house was pushed back and the front of our did not face the street, it was sideways.

I LOVED it. It was so private and quiet. We had an acre of property that my parents still maintain. I used to play in the dead end and ride my bike. I would love to buy my parents house but I'm not crazy about the district they are in.

Re: Cul-de-sac property shape

I live on a cul de sac, but our property is fairly normal shaped. It's a little narrower at the front, and goes out a bit wider toward the back, but we have no issues. Our neighbors to the right have more property on the right of their house, but they've just laid out their backyard appropriately. Like the others said, as long as the space is usable, it's all good.

I love it here--no through traffic, nice and quiet, everyone is friendly to one another, it's really nice.

Re: Cul-de-sac property shape

Thanks for the info! The yard is certainly usable - in fact they have a large shed, a 16x36 in ground pool and a deck and there is still open grass in the back yard. If I had to describe the shape - I'd say it's somewhat of a parallelogram. I appreciate the feedback and think I'll go give it a second look!

We are renting in a cul-de-sac and I can tell you that it is very private, usualy the cars that are coming and going are the people who live on your block.

Re: Cul-de-sac property shape

I live in a cul-de-sac shaped lot. Where two streets intersect, there is a rounded cutout with 3 houses on it, so it's not a true cul-de-sac but my property is irregular. I honestly love it.

I have 60' in the front but 133' in the back. I have very large covered patio, a large grassy area and on the side of the house I have a huge fenced in inground pool - safe and out of the way - does not interfere with the backyard at all.

The only thing I don't like about it is everyone makes u-turns in front of my house. Not a big deal except when I am watching TV at night.

Re: Cul-de-sac property shape

What is the lot size?

Most cul de sacs have odd shapes. Everyone likes different shape properties so really only you can decide.
