Curious what others think of this - Riverhead school district propose $78 million bond to improve schools infrastructure
I know the schools are starting to fall into disrepair but I am concerned about rising taxes. Curious what others think about this. Here is the link

I would vote yes for proposition 1 and no to proposition 2. As a teacher, I hate seeing buildings that are falling apart. I worked in a school that had leaking ceilings...I would have to move students desks so that they would not be leaked on ... it was ridiculous. I also think that the doors/window/boiler improvements are a good idea to make the schools more energy efficient.

I think Riverhead needs to get a handle on illegal multi-unit rentals and tax those property owners correctly then the burden will be shared equally and appropriately amongst tax payers. Also the new big box stores in riverhead need to help fund these improvements, because of the development on 58 the main street area has suffered. The improvements need to be made for the benefit of the students, but everyone should pay there fair share.

I agree with this.. to add I think the town/county should end giving tax breaks or tax deals to new businesses. These funds are crucial into keeping Riverhead running and schools thriving.

I agree with this. The town of Riverhead has grown tremendously over the past few years and the schools definitely need an update. I think the schools NEED the changes they are proposing. We are always about saving money, but this goes beyond that.

I agree but I think at this point it is too little too late. I know something needs to be done about the schools but I really haven't come to a decision yet how to vote, it's a tough call...

If i were in your shoes I would see if any community organizations are holding meetings on the issue. I think it needs to get voted down first so the community can pressure the township to get the tax assesments in order, then try again.

ITA. I have a friend that's a Riverhead teacher, and all of these things are necessary updates. Yes, higher taxes suck, but at least they're using the money on actual improvements.
