It really surprises me that this is something that parents do. I feel like if the child makes the cutoff, let them go! I was born end of December and can't imagine being a whole year back from where I am now. If dc starts kindy and is not doing well, then let them repeat k
My ds will be 4 when he starts like I mentioned in pp

My boys are only 2.5 but born 11/24 so it's something I had thought a lot about. I would have probably held them back but we are now moving OOS and our districts cutoff is 9/1 - thankfully I don't have to think about this anymore!

DD was born Mid-November. She is one of the youngest in her Pre-K class but she is doing great. The teacher did say from the beggining at that age each child is different..there is a big difference from DD and some of the almost 5 year olds in her class but it's PRE-K. There is no way I would hold her back unless I felt she was really struggling which I do not. I am also a late November baby and never had a problem keeping up...as a matter of fact most of my school years I did really well. I don't see any need to hold a child back..the quicker they get used to it the better. JMO.

For those considering holding back...would 1/2 day Kindergarten change your mind?
I'm still thinking of what to do with DS. At first it was to hold him back but now that they are doing 1/2 days I'm wondering if I should take that into consideration as well.

My twins have a 10/29 birthday and I am not going to send them to K in September. I can see they are immature and need another year to mature. They also have speech and fine motor skill delays. In addition they weren't due until Dec. so I figure if they came on time then I wouldn't have to make this decision.
My 7 year old was a late birthday as well and I sent him to K at 4. He ended having a lot of trouble in school so we repeated K. He had trouble socially and academically and his loss of self-esteem as he became aware of these deficiencies was just heartbreaking.
