Current nannys-how much notice should i give for a layoff?
I have to let my nanny go..i am paying almost 700 a week and well, tough economy and i just cant swing it anymore...My nanny has not been flexible at all as i am still paying her all her salary, gave her a 20 percent raise this year etc..she is telling me now that i cant pay her xtra hours that she is gonna need second job etc..and i asked her to come an hour early Mon and she said well, i need to know my exact hours so i can look for extra work...i am putting DD in nursery school this fall and have no idea how to do this...i am scared of giving ehr too much notice and then she bails or neglects DD, she has been amazing to us and DD and i love her to pieces but it is weird how she is acting etc....she knows our jobs have cut us back etc..and i just feel like? She is mad i am paying her hours let alone cutting her back, what should i do in your opinion? 2 weeks etc.. I have no one to watch her in the meantime if she were to just bail if i gave her advance notice...

I think 2 weeks would be sufficient; however with the way she is acting, you need to have a back up plan prior to giving her notice. It's obvious that she may not hang on for the 2 weeks or with her reaction you may not feel comfortable keeping her 2 more weeks.

Can you schedule vacation for the two weeks notice period and just give her a paid two weeks notice without her actually working - avoid the possibility all together?

I would so this too. Only because of the way she is acting anyway, she will definitely not give you the 100% that you, and your child, need to get

Thnx so much everyone...it is so hard, you let them into your family and heart and then you realize it is all about the money...sad....and it is for all of us to some extent...but it is not like i cut her hours, i just cant give her anymore..i am so upset...

this is exactly what I would do< I would not trust her with your DC after you let her go

well, if she has been "amazing" to your family then I would say at least 2 weeks notice.
