Re: cutting cable...
if it was up to me I would do it but since my husband is addicted to TV this would never happen. Then again I guess if I can show him that our main tv can be hooked up to my computer and just stream the tv that way he might change his mind.
It would save us approx. $1,200 yearly

Re: cutting cable...
If we didn't have to have sports on 24/7, I would do this in a heartbeat. Talk to my DH

Re: cutting cable...
Here in MA, I have recently downgraded our cable to the digital version of one step above basic, which they call digital economy, for 29.99. I barely get any channels. I should just get rid of it since the only channel I really watch is Fox, or USA for Law and Order but I found that I can get them on my TV from Netflix (in fact watching all of season 3 right now). I barely watch any live TV anymore, and any channels I do, I can use a digital antenna, like a friend of mine does, and she even gets on screen show information like I do with cable. Since my DH doesn't really watch sports shows regularly, it wouldn't be a problem.

Re: cutting cable...
We actually just canceled cable today. DH hooked up a computer to the TV so we can watch shows off of the internet, not the same quality as before, but our bill went from $150 to $35 for internet and basic.

Re: cutting cable...
Cable would be one of the last things we cut -- it is out main source of entertainment. We rarely go to movies or rent movies. My tivo full of reality tv also keeps me occupied when I am bored on weekends, and therefore saves me a ton because I don't go out shopping! But if we had to do it, we would.

Re: cutting cable...
One of my best friends (who is a bit of a modern hippy) has gone screen free...her kids do not watch TV, and they have no internet or laptops. Its not for everyone, but it has saved her marriage and she is happy as anything with it! They do have electricity and mobile phones and the whole shebang, they just choose to be screen free for right now!! I couldn't do it...

I think that would DESTROY our marriage....
We just got our Wii set up with Netflix last night, and I plan on getting a Blu-ray player soon that plays all the on-line shows, so it's getting tempting to do that. We still watch a lot of shows, and have literally hundreds of hours of shows on our DVR, so I don't think we'll be completely dropping satellite anytime soon, but it *is* a cool concept.
