Cutting the quick?
I cut Misty's nails this morning and cut the quick on her back foot. A - I feel horrible B - How long does it take to stop bleeding. I tried a styptic and it kept bleeding. I took her for a walk and it kept bleeding. Now she is sleeping on the couch with a towel under her and I am afraid to look and see if it is still bleeding.
Did I mention I feel horrible for doing this to her

Re: Cutting the quick?
put baby powder on the tip to stop the bleeding. DH did this to Tiger once, and after that I now take him to the vet to have them clipped.

Re: Cutting the quick?
I just cut my doggies nails today and was so afraid of doing it!
Not sure how long it takes to stop. But don't be afraid to cut her nails again...the more often you cut, the shorter the quick gets!!!

Re: Cutting the quick?
I remember hearing that a vet recommended using that liquid bandage stuff on it. I am always afraid of cutting my cat's nails too low.

Re: Cutting the quick?
I don't know what to tell you since we don't use a clipper on Bama's nails, but for the future, why don't you try a dremmel? That's what we do, and it's much easier and less painful for the dog. The chances of hitting the quick are a lot less because you shave off the nail little by little. I knicked Bama's quick with the dremmel once, and it only bled a tiny tiny bit.

Re: Cutting the quick?
You can buy this powder called "Quikie Stop" at the petstore. It will stop the bleeding. If nothing is put on, the bleeding will last a while because they don't clot that well in their nails.

Re: Cutting the quick?
Thank you everyone for your advice. She is fine, actually she was fine from the start, I was the basket case...I am going to get the Quickie Stop and keep it on hand for the next time. Although, hopefully there won't be a next time
