Just a little. I had a college friend who had it, but lost touch with him over the years. He would periodically have to be admitted to the hospital because his lungs would fill with fluid and they had to drain it. It is a children's disease, primarily because I believe most people who get it don't live to a healthy old age - many die before their mid-thirties.

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
My cousin was just diagnosed with it- he's about 5 months old. It is a genetic disease. In order to have CF, each one of the parents must carry the gene. CF is primarily a "white persons" disease; quite often people from Northern European decent (we are half German and half Italian). The average life expectency, at this point- is around 30. People with CF have to take a lot of pills, both antibiotics & vitamins. I know my cousin has to take something that helps him digest food.
After my cousin was diagnosed, I got tested to see if I was a carrier (I am not). If you are worried, you can easily get tested- it's only about 3 or 4 vials of blood.

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
I have a close family friend who had twins with CF. One died from it as an infant (back in 1980) and the other survived. We grew up together he took tons and tons of pills and his parents made there home into a totally dust free enviornment with no rugs, drapes.. etc. But today he is 25 and had a normal life somewhat went to camp, went to college, works full time.
But gosh he took so many pills and his mom was such a wreck growing up (naturally so.. since she lost one son and was afraid to have anymore).

Re: Cystic Fibrosis
Thanks...A good friends wife has it. I have known this for a long time. She is in the hospital every other weekend at this point. SHe is on the list for a lung transplant. She is 30 and has twins! I am just wondering if this is actually fatal. I am worried about my friend and him being able to care for his twins without her
