cytotec
How were your experiences with this drug? I picked it up from the pharmacy and I'm really scared to use it

Re: cytotec
My experience was awful... but it might have also had something to do with the fact that i was given mine rectally not vaginally

oh no. Why did they give it to you rectally? I don't know much about the drug but I never heard of that

Re: cytotec
I took it but it didn't have the effect on me that I thought it would. It actually stopped my bleeding while I was on it and gave me god awful diarrea. That's all it did.
Good luck!

Re: cytotec
How long did the cytotec take to start the miscarriage? I took it at 11:30 this morning and I barely have had any bleeding.

Yep, this is what happened to me - it practically stopped my bleeding.

Re: cytotec
In "hindsight" it was "alright". I was devestated, completely out of it and DID not want to go to the hospital so I agreed to cyotec in the drs office. The bleeding began approx 3 hrs later, all was expelled (so i thought). Approx 2 days later bleeding stopped. BUT my #s were certainly not 0. I belive they were still in the 500's not to mention this was about 2-3 weeks later. They did a sono and still saw "stuff". They enlightened me that despite taking Cysotec if my #s didnt go to 0 I would end up with a D&C anyway. Well, thankfully a week or 2 later they did go down and I bled a bit more. Could you even imagine taking cyotec and then having a D&C? That is my ONLY problem with it.

I think I might still need a D&C. I took it yesterday and barely anything happened. She prescribed it to me again today and it's still minimal bleeding. I'm not sure what my other options are since she's refusing to do a D&C

Re: cytotec
If you don't mind me asking- why a refusal to do a D&C?

I'm not sure what my other options are since she's refusing to do a D&C why is she refusing? Honestly, after 2 weeks if you dont go natural, no matter what, I would get a D&C. Maybe she just thinks given a few weeks your body will expel on its own. How long has it been since the fetus wasnt living (approx)? If its longer then 2 weeks, I'd see another OB. Like I said, the cyotec did work after about 4 hrs but then it stopped then days later continued but the fetus was expelled within the first day not those days after. My biggest concern with using your current drs logic would be infection. She has to have some type of reasoning.
* What did you mean that she prescribed it to you? She didnt do it? How are you taking it? Mine put 4 pills straight into the cervix.*

After my D&C when I had my 1st miscarriage I got a horrible pain in my gallbladder 2 days later. I could barely walk it was so bad and was admitted into the hospital. No one figured out what was wrong but I had a ton of tests done, fluid in my lungs and very bizarre symptoms that didn't fit any diagnosis. I was put on heavy duty antibiotics which made the pain go away but it was a really rough week and my doctor was upset because she felt it was due to something that may have happened during the D&C. She said everything went smoothly, the only issue was I have a sensitive cervix so she had to cauterize the cervix. After all the complications from the last D&C she is refusing to do another one.

I honestly don't know and it wasn't till a lot later that I realized that wasn't the way everyone else did it... It Was the ER OB that administered it to me

Re: cytotec
Paulette - I took my pills orally also. I wonder if they are less effective that way.

She's refusing because I had a lot of complications after my last D&C. I don't know how long it's been since the fetus wasn't living. last monday there was a very weak fetal pole and last friday I was told that this wasn't a viable pregnancy. She prescribed me an antibiotic in case of infection.
She prescribed me the cytotec as in I picked it up from the pharmacy and inserted it myself.
