No personal experience except that I've made a mental note that I never would be. I remember one of those birth documentaries that had some scary stuff.

Have you researched this?! Straight from the FDA: http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders/ucm111315.htm

Not approved for labor use, risk of torn uterus....why would you choose this option? Why is your Ob recommending it?

Well that's terrifying.

My experience: I was induced with cytotec. I progressed well and fully dilated. I did thereafter have a C-section.

I also was induced with cytotec. No problems. Dose 1 was at 10p, dose 2 at 3:30a, pushed for 2 hours (first baby and he was still high), delivered at 2:15p. I was 1cm and 70%. If you have concerns about the drug discuss them with your doc.

I am supposed to go in at 7am for the induction. I read terrifying things about the drug and think I want to reschedule and use cervidil with pitocin.

Honestly, if I were you I'd go with my gut. You are supposed to go in a few hours from now and are questioning, there's a lot to be said for intuition IMO. Cervidil and pitocin is your better option. How far along are you that you need to be induced?

I personally wouldn't use it based on the documentary mentioned in prior posts, but I didn't want to be induced at all anyway. I went a little late and just did extra monitoring to make sure DD was ok.

Re: Cytotec

It's not much different than Cervidil. Ask your doctor why that is being chosen over the Cervidil. There may be an actual answer.

I had 2 rounds of cervadil and then cytotec before pitocin. The cervadil didn't dilate me at all. GL.

My cousin was successfully induced with it. I had 3 rounds of cervadil and pitocin wound up with a csection. I remember reading some scarey stuff about cytotec.

Cytotec

When I had a fetal demise they used it to get me to dilate.

just recently gave birth, was given three rounds in liquid form and was still only 1cm dialated. Had to get a c-section. Apparently, my cervix wasn't 'ripe' which was the reason they wouldn't give me pitocin. Also, cervadil is very similar to cytotec ....

I had a successful induction with cervadil and pitocin. I thought cervadil and cytotec were the same but after reading they are not. I did not take anything orally. Cervadil was inserted vaginally every 4 hours i think for 12 hours then pitocin started. Was a long labor but not bad once epi kicked in! I was maybe a fingertip dialated and 5 days late when induced.

Yes, the Cytotec should be inserted vaginally, just like cervidil.
