Daisy's birth 1/10/10
So because of my gestational diabetes I had figured I was destined to have an induced labor which I did not want so with my midwife's permission I had been taking evening primose oil and drinking red raspberry leaf tea as well as doing the deed with DH as often as my body was up to it! Unfortunately what seemed to do the trick was the horrible stomach virus I woke up with the morning of 1/10. It started with diarrhea then accompanied by nauseau and vomiting. My coworkers had thrown me a "sprinkle" the night before so I briefly thought it might be food poisoning but DH and DD went and ate the same things and they were fine. So I mostly stayed in the bedroom that morning being sick while DH got prepared to go to the hospital. Finally after hours of him begging me to take me to the hospital I agreed because I felt at this point I was becoming seriously dehydrated. We dropped off DD#1 at my friend's house then headed off to the hospital. I still did not believe I was in labor yet, contractions were consistant but not painful and I contributed them to dehydration anyway. We got to the hospital around 1:30pm where I got an IV and some zofran and lomotil to help with my GI issues. I was contracting about every 3 minutes at that point and was 2.5cm/80% effaced at this point. I was also having a bloody show. The midwife wanted to keep monitoring me in triage because she believed I was going into labor. So I stayed on the monitor for a few hours downing the most delicious ice chips I had ever tasted! The contractions started becoming a little more intense and I was rechecked at 6pm and I was about 3cm at that point. I was convinced to stay at this point because even though I hadn't made much progress yet my bloody show had increased and my contractions had gotten more intense despite a liter and a half of fluid and she didn't feel comfortable sending me home so off to L&D I went. When I got admitted they set me up to soak in the tub which was HEAVEN! I hung out in the tub for about an hour then got back into bed. At this point I was starting to hurt pretty bad but still in pretty good control of my pain. When I got back into bed the nurse put the doppler on me and noticed a slight dip in the baby's heart rate so she placed me back on the monitors for a bit and checked me and I was now 4cm still 80% effaced but the baby's head was nice and low. It was about 8pm at this point and I was starting to get frustrated and exhausted at my slow progress plus at this point I was gripping the side rails from the pain of the contractions and finding it hard to stay focused. I called the nurse back in at about 8:15 and asked for an epidural. I had wanted to try a natural birth but was not dead set against drugs and I felt I had reached my breaking point at this time and waved my white flag. The nurse came back in a few minutes and said they were finishing up a c-section so it would be a few extra minutes before anesthesia would be available. I had no problem sticking it out for a little while longer since I knew relief was on the way. At about 8:40ish the midwife came back in to check me and I was 5cm/100%, she rubbed my back for a few contractions then left the room to write the orders for the epidural in my chart. She was gone no more then 5 minutes when all of a sudden I had this tremendous pressure down below so I pushed down and my water broke. The next contraction I had I screamed to DH that I had to push so he hit the call bell and they must have heard the ruckus I was causing because everyone came running back in the room, LOL. My midwife checked me and I was 8cm at this point. They started to prepare the room for delivery and the next contraction I had I couldn't help but push and sure enough when she checked me again I was 10cm. As the baby started to crown I started to hesitate to push because of the burning sensation I felt so they helped me out by giving me a little lidocaine to help numb the area so I can push her completely out. After less than 10 minutes of pushing Daisy Nicole was born at 9:06pm weighing in at 6lbs 15oz and 19in long. (almost a 1lb lighter than DD#1 hence the short pushing time!) Recovery has been ok, unfortunately my stomach virus lasted 4 days so that def. slowed the process down but now at a week post partum I am feeling good. Breastfeeding was a little more challening this time which threw me off but I also think that that is now under control as well.
And now for pic overload: Fresh out the womb Hello Daisy! Big Sister Maddie Me and my girls getting ready to go home Home sweet home
