Dance School Recitals
Okay what happened to tutus, swan lake, the nutcracker, and point?
I go to my 4 little cousins recitals yesterday, and they were dancing so provocatively. Rolling around on the floor and stuff. Then what a treat it was when the 16 and 17 yr olds danced to Pour Some Sugar on Me, while grinding on chairs.
They seemed to have replaced ballet with "lyrical"
Tap dance yesterday was riske as well. 1/2 of the girls were dressed like guys dancing with each other.
They go to a "good" school that wins a lot of competitions, but the last thing I want to see is a 6 yr old doing a pelvic thrust to an Usher song.

Re: Dance School Recitals
this sounds a lot like my dance recitals from 10 years ago... i think the days of dance schools only doing classical ballet are long gone.

that is what I am wondering...are they gone? This school wins competitions, but then at the same time I feel like it is a waste of money because these moves can be copied by watching mtv. It was the same moves over and over again anyway

That's sad. I hope those days aren't gone. I loved dance school and the recitals we did...no, I never did a thrust or grinded a chair...and if I have a little girl...I would love to send her too.

Re: Dance School Recitals
I don't think this is a new thing. I remember dancing to Madonna songs in pretty skimpy outifts in the 4th grade & the director of te school overheard some girls sayign that the dance moves were "slutty" & she was so upset --I think they changed it, but they didn't want to change too much at the last minute, b/c we woudln't learn the new stuff in time. This was a jazz class.
In the following years, I took ballet, but I don't think the jazz routines were any calmer. I imagienit has gotten worse though, judging my the pop music & viedoes that are out there.
And the dressing like boys thing was done too, by the tap clases--there just weren't enough boys in the school & it was cute.
So, there was NO traditional ballet? I wonder if my old school still has it. I took classical ballet from 1987-1994, but there defintely was soem provactive stuff in the jazz clases at the time.
