dancing school for 2 1/2 y/o in Farmindale/massapequa area
DD will be 2 1/2 in May, and I was thinking about putting her in dance for the summer. Any recommendations in these areas are greatly appreciated. We live in F'dale. Thanks!

I don't know any places, I live in White Plains, but I just want to throw my two cents out there.... I teach dance for a living. My kids start at 3yrs old. For a "real" dance class I would say that 3 should be the minimum age requirement. Before 3yrs old, you can really sign up for any type of class- dance, music, creative movement, tumbling, etc... She will gain the same thing from any class at that age. She will enjoy the music, but at that age it's all about mimicary, not so much retention. At 4yrs old they start to really retain what you're teaching them, they have more control over their own bodies and it becomes more of a building block. The bottom line is, don't feel "stuck" to find her a dance class. As long as she is enjoying class then she's in the right setting. Look for classes that have structure but are not too strict. The best thing at that age is repetition, so look for classes that follow a routine- have a weekly warm up, then do different activities weekly, and then end of class rituals.
