Dare to be different

Do you follow the pack when it comes to your image? Do you purposely do things differently to make yourself stand out?

My sister was complaining that her nails were so thin and break easily and she asked to see my nails. I showed her and said that I don't mess with them, so they're in pretty good shape. Meaning, that I don't get manicures and paint them and put tips on or anything.

And she made a remark that they're supposed to be FLAT on top, not ROUNDED. And rolled her eyes.

Who the heck cares? I mean really. I think my nails look nice. They're certainly in better shape than hers. I don't bite them, they are kept trim, clean and at a nice consistent length.

My niece (her daughter) asked me about it when her mom wasn't around. I let her know that sometimes, you do things that make you happy and disregard what anyone else thinks. Chat Icon

I hope she gets the message. You don't necessarily have to follow all the time.

Considering I always feel like an odd ball wherever I go, then I must be different. And I'm OKAY with that! Chat Icon

Re: Dare to be different

my nails are round and unpolished, if that answers your question! Chat Icon

I don't do things specifically to stand out, but I do what I feel like doing, which is sometimes not popular. I went through a manic panic hair dye phase in high school, but other than that I haven't done many physical appearance things to stand out.

Definitely NOT a pack follower. The nail thing sounds so stupid to me but I also know of your history with your sister so I just chalk it up to that. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Dare to be different

I do what I like. I will do some things that can be considered 'trendy' or popular. But not because I need to be at the cutting edge of every trend.

The thing that makes me even crazier than people who are slaves to the latest craze are those folks who go out of their way to be different.

My motto... be yourself. And F*ck 'em if they don't like you.

DISCLAIMER: Most people don't like me.. so this advise may not be the best for winning friends and influencing people!Chat Icon

Re: Dare to be different

when it comes to beauty stuff- I don't follow trends at all- I think you have to do what looks best on you and makes you happy

my nails aren't all the same shape- if yours are- then you are 1 step ahead of me- I lost my ability to see for a manicure- unless I have a special place to go

My nails are the envy of everyone I know - they are naturally strong, grow long without breaking, and I keep them unpolished and round Chat Icon

I follow the beat of my own drum for the most part. I don't like to spend money needlessly and I think that is what following trends involves a lot of the time.
