Dark Moulding / Light walls

Anyone paint their walls a lighter color than the moulding? (As opposed to white moulding.)

Tossing around ideas for the guest bedroom and one of them was to paint the walls BM Cement Gray and the moulding the darker color on the sample swatch thing.

Post pics if you've got them! Chat Icon

This is actually our kitchen before we painted it (we painted the mouldings white, but only because they were wood but didn't match the wood color of the cabinets).

I like dark mouldings though - I think they could work wonderfully in a bedroom (we aren't that far along yet!)

damn my cousin has her whole house like this. She did a dark stain on mouldings and lighter colors on the wall.

She did shades of browns for the walls looks rich looking

We originally bought oak wood mouldings and planned to stain them a dark wood color like mahagony but I changed my mind and did white mouldings instead.
A friend of mine did her house this way and it looks great!

I havent seen anyone paint the moulding a darker shade of paint than whats on the wall though if that's what you mean.

Yes, that's what I mean...I'm torn on the whole idea and thought some pics would help me decide Chat Icon

I have another week before I need to make the decision...so we'll see.

Re: Dark Moulding / Light walls

I have seen that but of course, don't have any pics to show you. One of my friends has moulding painted a darker shade then what's on her walls and another friend stained her mouldings a dark color and her walls are all varying shades of white and linen. It works, but you can't find color on her walls anywhere in her home.

I liked them both. I think with the paint there is always the potential of things going very badly if your shades aren't right.

Oh I just remembered my best friend (there goes that distinction Chat Icon ) has a very interesting yellow and green thing happening in her kitchen/dr/lr area (open floor plan) - some green walls w/ yellow moulding and vice versa. It's fun - that's the only way I can think to describe it.

We had thought about doing that but then started thinking about how that effected doors and closets and molding around doors etc and it steamrolled...I love that look though - I guess it depends on the room and what else is in it.

They did black moulding on one of those house flipping shows and it was a bit much....but I have seen pictures with a darker color (other than black) and it's very striking.
I have no pictures though, so I'm clearly no help to you at all really, am I?Chat Icon

Re: Dark Moulding / Light walls

I was wondering about the flow as well. Every other room has (or will have) some shade of white for the moulding. Will this one room break up the flow or is that even a concern?

I'm thinking we'll go with white moulding...I can't really wrap my head around the idea of doing it in reverse. Chat Icon
