Dateline to air Adoption Story on 3 Sets of Twins

Dateline NBC
June 25, Sunday, 7 p.m.
In an emotional report, Keith Morrison tells the story of two ordinary people that risked everything to reunite three sets of Russian orphan twins that were brothers and sisters.

The Mom is on another site I vist. This is really an amazing family they adopted all 6 siblings. While adopting the youngest set of twins they learned of the siblings and went back to get them all.

Seeing those children in the orphanage really tugged at my heartstrings, I want to take one home... Chat Icon

What was everyone's opinion on changing the names of the older twins? My first instinct was "yikes theyre confused enough and went through enough alreadY" but then I thought about it and figured the mom had a great point, in a "fresh new start" and shes definately keeping their culture as part of their lives...

I like the fact that she asked them if they'd like to and that she kept their birth names as their middle names. I probably would have kept the birth name if the children came to me at that age unless my children wanted to change them, but she did ask, so I think it's ok.

Oh I didnt realize she asked (my toddler was in the room as we watched Chat Icon )
but I dont doubt that they made it a well thought out decision...

Re: Dateline to air Adoption Story on 3 Sets of Twins

I really don't know what the right answer is. I think it's a very personal decision for everyone. I personally will probably change my baby's name when he comes home, but he'll only be about 5 mos old so I don't think it will have much of an impact. I'd like to incorporate his birth name in somehow but also incorporate our family's tradition by naming him after my hubbie and his family. If the baby was older though, I probably wouldn't change the name. I guess you don't know what you'd do unless you were in the situation yourself. Chat Icon

Very true. I guess my first instinct was that they were too old to have their names changed. But Im sure it was fine.

Thats wonderful to incorporate both names and both cultures. Chat Icon
