day care issue

Well..sort of. Every day at my local trainstation i see this older couple..her husband gets on the same train as i do, as well as their friend. So other than saying hi and bye most days they now chat with me b/c im pregnant and we see each other pretty much every day.

The wife of the couple started talking to me a few weeks ago about a day care she is opening in her home. She said they are looking for a bigger house to do this and is licensed by PA to take care of 6 kids at once (which seems like a lot).

I told her im not sure what our arrangements are yet as we're looking at places, I will be working from home 2 days a week at first and my mom will be there 1-2 days..so right now I dont need full time care.

My issues are a few..1)..she's well over 60 years old and overweight..and not that i have anything against weight, but clearly the weight gives her mobility or arthritis issues b/c she can barely bend over and pick something up..her husband helps her out of the car etc. so i have no idea how she would even chase after kids all day.

2). i dont really know them well enough..i only know them from seeing them at the train station etc. (and honestly, i dont like being barraged about this every day at 6:30 am ..i barely talk to my husband in the morning..LOL).

and 3) she spoke to my husband about this too one day after i got on the train and he said from what it sounds like is that she is doing this as a hobby..something to pass the time while her hubby is at work all day. It didnt seem like she was hiring anyone to help her either.

So my question is that since i hate confronting people about these things, how do I nicely say that im not interested. I know i can just say oh well we gave a deposit to such and such place, but im sure this will be an awkward situation now. Nor do i want to get into all the reasons I do not want her watching my kid. I know she'll keep asking DH about it when she sees him going to work after the baby comes; and they know this friday is my last day of work so she was giving me her phone # and stuff.

Sorry this is so long..i hate when people put me on the spot about these things. its one thing to mention it and give me info, but really..every other day so early in the morning is starting to annoy me.

tell her you won't be needing daycare, you have made other arrangements with family but wish her luck.

"Thanks. That sounds like a great opportunity but we've already made other arrangements."

Re: day care issue

Honestly, I would just make up something about a family member watching your kid and it'll be free for you, so that's why you're not going with her!

I would say the same thing. That you have made arrangements for family to watch LO.
