Day Care Regulations-age groups together
Does anyone know (or know where I can find out) what age groups can be together in a room for a licsensed day care center? Can an 8 week old baby be in the same room as a 16 month old?? What is the child to teacher ratio? Any info would be appreciated!

Re: Day Care Regulations-age groups together
yes i know an 8 week can be in a room with a 16 month - up to 18 month fallunder the same cateregory - and it is a 4-1 ratio - my day care center has the 6week - 18 month together- it goes pretty well because there needs are different at different months of age

Re: Day Care Regulations-age groups together
Really? I think that is ridiculous! An 8 week old requires much different care than a 16 month old. Even if there is the correct number of teachers I can't imagine the older kids are getting the attention they need when the teacher is feeding and holding a newborn. I would be upset to have my newborn in a room with kids that old. That's very upsetting. I ask bc someone I know had a situation with their older child and the teacher admitted she was holding the baby when it happened.

My DD was in the infant room until she was 16 months old. The ratio was 4:1

HERE is a link to the regulations - but it is not clear about age groupings of infants (all kids under 18 months are considered infants), only ratio, which as has already been stated is 4:1.

Re: Day Care Regulations-age groups together
Thanks for the link! My son wasn't in a center when he was younger so I wasn't aware of the ratios. Makes me sad to think that my next child, if I have one, will be dealing with this. I don't think it's appropriate to have such young babies with children that are walking around. JMO

Re: Day Care Regulations-age groups together
Maybe try a larger center - we looked at an in-home and the infant room was from 12w-18mos.
We ended up going with a center. The infant room is from 6w-6mos, then there is a room from 6mos-12mos and one from 12mos-18mos. Based on enrollment, the kids may stay longer in one room.

Re: Day Care Regulations-age groups together
Check with the actual daycares. The daycare I go to have 8 weeks to 12 months in one room, but there are two sides of the room. 2 - 6/7 months on one side and to 12 the other side. DS went into another room at 12 months and again had two sides. 12 - 18 one side and under two the other side.

Re: Day Care Regulations-age groups together
Right now my son is in a tutor time and I think the ages are broken up more than just birth to 18 months. He is in the 2 year old room (he started when he was already two) so I never inquired about the infant rooms. We are hoping to have another child so I should probably ask so that I am prepared for the future. Thanks for all of the info!
