Daycare application fees

Uch! I am so annoyed.

So I have to pay $100 just to APPLY for daycare. There are two in my areas that *may* have spots this summer. And I have to pay to be put on the list.

I am so annoyed.Chat Icon

One of the things I hate about living in Manhattan.

That's actually pretty standard for here as well.

But my favorite is the "yearly" registration feeChat Icon every Sept. Hmmmm, if my DC's are already enrolled an "annual registration" fee makes no senseChat Icon

I never heard of that.....I worked in Day Care for a long time and DS was in Day care from 3 to 18 mos and I never paid fees like that. I'd be annoyed too. It seems a little crazy.

Re: Daycare application fees

You should get reimbursed though if you don't use that daycare.

I paid it too in LI, you're not alone.

As far as a re-reg fee, we'll just have to see about that!

I've never heard of such a thing. Are most daycares doing this now? I have a woman watching my dc at her home daycare and she's not doing thisChat Icon

I have to do this, and it drives be BANANAS...and we have an "admin" fee for "summer session" I did some simple math and if the school has 100 kids at 55 bucks for summer (and I think the have more) it's like 55,000 dollars...

and it's like 100 bucks for the "school year"

Actually it is only 5,500. Not that it is not insane but it is not as high as you thought.

I have seen this for preschool that I am looking at too. Why they don't apply it to the fee for the year makes no sense to me, I get if you back out they can keep it, but not if I actually go and pay the monthly fee.

Re: Daycare application fees

Wow, that is crazy! We are sending DS to the local JCC in the fall for "school" 2 days a week and the $500 deposit will be applied to the cost of the schooling (each month, the price will be reduced by $50). If we didn't end up sending him there, we would have gotten all the money back.
