Daycare moms of 2+: Did you send your older child while on maternity leave?

DS will be 3.5 when the baby is born. I want to keep his routine at least a few days per week. He loves daycare/preschool. Plus, I know I'll need at least some time to recover as I'll likely have another c-section. Between the driving restrictions and the recovery, I'll probably send him FT for the first 2 weeks unless DH or my family will be around. I'm trying to decide whether to send him to daycare/preschool 2 or 3 days per week either PT (less than 6 hours) or FT for the remaining 10 weeks of my leave.

What did you decide to do? How old was DC when you were on maternity leave?

Yup and don't regret it at all. DS was 2 when the baby was born. It was last summer. The daycare does a sort of "summer" program for the toddlers where they do Sprinklers twice a week, water table and lots of other outside activities.

I figured since it was the summer and I wouldn't want to take the baby out on real hot days or not be able to chase my toddler around holding the baby it was the best thing.
I sent him in 3 full days a week. Tues - THurs.
When he was in daycare he got to run outside on the playground, through the sprinklers, play with friends, etc.
I got to spend my time sort of Chat Icon Chat Icon relaxing and bonding time with the new baby. We went for walks and when he got a little older (around 2 months) I ran errands with him. Made it easier to do shopping with the baby on days my toddler was in daycare rather than taking them both to the store Chat Icon
If you can... DO It!
THe daycare Director gave me a great price. Especially since it was the summer and they lose a lot of teacher's kids

Yes. He went for shorter days, but I still sent him.

My older son was 22 months when the baby was born. We sent him 2 days a week, instead of his usual 4 while I was on leave. To me, it was very important to keep as much normalcy in his life as possible. And he needed to keep his routine, so as not to have to readjust all over again in a few months. Plus, it gave me some alone time to bond with the baby. It worked out great for everyone.

Absolutely - I was on leave for 6 months and I didn't think it was fair

1. for the baby not to have ANY 1-1 time with me
2. to transition Sean BACK to daycare again after I was home w/ him for 6 months .......

He went 2x a week instead of 3 and did 8-6 instead of 6:45 - 6

It was good for everyone to keep SOME consistency
