DAYCARE TO AVOID
EVERYONE AVOID THIS IN HOME DAYCARE
I remember a few years ago, I called places, and one person happened to be EXTREMELY rude, hung up on me, and I called back and they (male) replied "its a bad day I guess" or something to that effect. I was FLOOREd, and wrote a letter to the suffolk childcare council.
This is how they responded to a potential mom to leave her child there ????
So fast forward to last week, Ive been calling a few daycares, some I spoke to, some I left messages.
and I couldnt remember or find the name of the daycare with that story I just told.. but I remembered something with BEARS in the name..
WEll, I just got a call, they left a blurry message, so I called them back. The SAME MAN answered (I only know because of how nasty he was AGAIN, for no reason!) I politely said that someone just left a message from that number that I couldnt understand. I wasnt sure it if might have been a classmate's mom (the caller ID did NOT say daycare, just a last name). so he passed the phone to the lady, muttering "the place you just called that said DONT leave a message" in a very "ugh" kinda tone. (same as last time )
so she comes on the phone and goes "hello, hi I wanna know how and where you got my number" (thats how she came on the phone!) So I said "excuse, who is this, what do you mean?" and then she told me she's a daycare and I left a message. and she said my machine told her DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE (My machine says, "Hi this is (my kids names) we're climbing the walls, leave a message and we'll call you back later") and its been my message for over a year now it IS a little blurred since my son said it fast on the machine, but anyway. I said to her "oh no sorry, it doesnt say that, but I got your info from the Suffolk Childcare council" so she responds "Yeah, what type of hours daycare arrangements are you looking for" and I just got this flashback of last time as soon as she said TWO BEARS DAYCARE. and I said "my daycare arrangements are taken care of" and she goes "OK BYE!" and hung up.
is it me ?????????????????????
No offense if anyone knows them, but this unaccceptable! How would any mom leave their child with these people? and TWO out of TWO times that I call I get this treatment from them?? WOW. Im floored.
TWO BEARS DAYCARE. AVOID THEM.

Re: DAYCARE TO AVOID
You know what..there are probably parents that send their kids there that don't know any better, or are just as rude as them, and I guarantee she takes DSS. I hope you find a great place soon!!

Re: DAYCARE TO AVOID
Social services daycare subsidy programs. Daycares get paid by the county for childcare for low income people. I know several that are clients of ours that make quite a bit of money from the state and they have violations out the ying yang.

OMG--I really think that is the one I called and I got a lady that wasn't necessarily rude but something was a bit "off." I was pregnant at the time and she was wondering why I was calling then. Umm, don't a lot of people try to get daycare set up while they are still pregnant? Also, it was the only daycare I called that had more than one baby crying in the background. It sounded like every baby in the room was crying. When I get a chance I am going to look at my notes and see if it was the same one. I looked but still have not found a day care but let me know if you want to compare notes, as we are looking in the same area.

it's prob the same one. her house was very noisy today too, but so was mine but she just sounded very abrupt, and a bit like off-center is the best way I can describe it. yeah sure, Id love to leave my kids there.
and when I told her my machine did NOT say dont leave a message, she goes "oh, sorry its sunday morning" but just the tone and manner in which they answer their phone! Its just like normal for them to answer the phone that way!
I can FM you other places I called, but Im a little iffy on of idea of home daycares for some resaon. Im liking the idea of the big centers more now. more eyes on them, routine, structure, etc.

Re: DAYCARE TO AVOID
Oh wait I have to report about another one. This one I visited
I wont badmouth her because it was just my own perception and she did nothing wrong.
but it was inhome also. She knew I was coming. I pull up to the driveway, and I see a BEWARE OF DOG sign NEXT DOOR, and not having grown up with pets, Im just not used to it, and dont want my child around a dog he doesnt know.
Well even though this was a pet NEXT DOOR, I thought what about days they may go outside..
well I ring the bell and hear LOTS of barking I open the door, and the owner is there with two teens that work for her. one of the teens is RUSHING the dog in her arms and swishing him to another room. all in plain view. she didnt even say "oh sorry, he got out" or something.
so now I figure that the dog roams the house freely (she didnt tell me otherwise). small dog, but thats irrelevant to me. I look in the kitchen, there are like 4-5 kiddies. all ages. 18m-4. eating breakfast. the teens are standing and eating their own cereal too. call me crazy but for 5 minutes that you have a potential customer coming, wouldnt you tell your employees to NOT eat cereal, and to maybe tell me a little about "a typical day there", etc. they just said hi and continued eating, as they stood by the kids.
again, im not judging this place, but i would not step foot in there again. it just baffles me how people think they can conduct business...
OH WAIT, and when I spoke to one of them on the phone, I told her my childs age, and she goes "boy or girl"... does anyone else ever get this question?
we should make this thread the WHAT TO AVOID thread..im coming up with more and more as I type this.

Not all of them have violations though. My daughter was in one that had ONE DSS client and they have a perfectly clean record and believe me I check constantly. You would be surprised on how many take DSS. (I know that they had a DSS client because my mom works for DSS and has dealt with this daycare for YEARS!)
Anna,
I am so sorry that they were rude to you. Let's hope that they do not treat their kids that rude and that they just have poor phone skills.

I'm aware that many take DSS as a form of payment and have no violations. I'm talking about the "reason" people would possibly send their kids to this particular provider. They probably don't know better and know that this person accepts DSS and the search ends there.
