Daytime Sleeping

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to get their babies to sleep in the daytime? Noah fights sleeping all day and is grizzly and cries non stop...he will doze off, but mostly in my arms and when I put him down in the buggy, he wakes right up.

He is asleep right now in the aquarium swing...but this is the first time he has sat in it without crying.

Any input from anyone would be helpful! I can't do a thing all day long with my left arm because he is attached to it!

How old is he?
Miranda was like this but eventually grew out of it. I just kept trying.
Now I just bounce her a few minutes on the ball and put her down semi asleep and she's fine.
I think it took about 4 months for us to get to decent or semi decent naps.

Is he swaddled?
Miranda is over 4 months old and she is still swaddled for all sleep.

He is 5 weeks...sleeps great at night but fights it like a demon in the day. He hates being swaddled, he likes to have his arms free.

He is asleep in my lap now, but I would love a nap or a bath or somwthing to eat other than cereal. I have been living on juice and kit kats for the last month!!!

Its now 4.30 here and I haven't managed to get out of the house...however I did manage to make a stew in the slow cooker...so thats got to be worth a few points. My husband is home now so I might be able to have a kip after a nice cup of tea...let the changing of the guard commence

When my son was young - he would only sleep in my arms!! I found the baby bjorn veyr helpful. Wasn't very convenient but I dealt with it (esp since he was colic and I welcomed his sleeping). A little older - he would only sleep in the swing. I did that for a couple months until he adjusted to the crib and it was wonderful - I'd get hour or two naps at of him that way!!

Give it time. This is very typical behavior for that age.
I will tell you what I tell everyone else. Sleeping close to you, your scent, your hearbeat, warmth etc. is what is comforting to a newborn and what they need right now. I know its frustrating but it does get better. Cherish these times because they only last so long. The housework and stuff will still be there when your little boy is too big to hold asleep on your lap.

You are right Monkey!! I know that a baby sleeping in your arms is one of those best things in life...housework can wait until my husband gets home!!

I did get some me time this evening to have a nice long soak in the tub and now (at 10.30 pm, Noah is sleeping in the pram in the living room and I daren't wake him for a bath yet!)

He has fought sleeping today from around 1 pm this afternoon til around 10...so thats 9 hours of aching arms for mommy!!!

Have you tried a sling?

I hope you don't think I was undermining how frustrating it is because there were definitely days I was at the end of my rope!! But now looking back I realize it passed by pretty fast and even though we don't have a great routine yet the days of dozing in mommy's arms are over. Chat Icon

no no, you are right...its amazing how fast the days go by with a baby. Its so hard to believe that only 5 weeks ago I was pregnant!!! It is frustrating, but when he is sleeping in my arms I can stare at his gorgeous face and think how incredible the whole experience is!

Also I can think about how good I am at a typing with one hand nowChat Icon
