DD has to wear glasses...please tell me that the teasing I endured when i was little is long gone
I took DD (3 1/2) to the opthamologist yesterday and she has a pretty bad astigmatism in her left eye so doc wants her to wear glasses. We ordered them last night and will get them in a week.
I have worn glasses since i was in 4th grade and back then teasing kids with glasses happened a lot.
I dont want my little girl to get teased. Its bad enough that she is super shy and doesnt talk to anyone at school....i cant imagine what would happen if anyone teased her because of it.
Does anyone's little ones wear glasses and how are their experiences? I am so upset over this because I cant help thinking if I didnt have these genes she wouldnt have to wear glasses. Im the one that has bad eyes. I know it isnt really a big deal, but I know how I felt when I was little and had to wear glasses and I dont want her to feel like I did.
Im sure everything will be okay, but I for some reason im sad. Im also PMSing...hehe.

Kids glasses they make now are so cute! My DS is always trying to rock glasses, even though he doesn't have to. I'm sure she's going to look adorable with them. As far as teasing, a bully will always find something to tease about, glasses or not. So just keep making her feel confident about herself, and she'll do great.

One of my good friends DS wears glasses and also started around age 3...He is now going into 1st grade...He looks absolutely adorable in them and my friend said all his little friends want to wear them now
I do know that she has gone through quite a few pairs ( he's a boy and a bit rough) so just keep that in mind while buying them...The first pair she picked was $$$$, after that she started to buy them at Walmart and the selection was just as cute and much less expensive...

as a teacher, i can tell you kids these days don't even think twice. it's as if they've never heard "four eyes"....it is just something that a few friends have that others don't. :) good luck, you're doing what's best for your DD and that's all that matters!

My nephew wears glasses and he does not get teased at all. At such a young age I don't think they think twice about it. He also has to wear a patch under his glasses

One of my friends has twins, both with glasses. They are 8yo now, and have had them for about 2 years. He's never mentioned anything about teasing. The 2nd one to get glasses was actually jealous of the other one for a while, since he didn't have his own glasses yet...
One of DS's classmates/sportsmates has glasses, including the sports glasses, and none of the kids even mentioned them, no less tease him.

I know plenty on kids that wear glasses and now it's the "cool" thing and actually a friend of mine went out and bought her daughter a pair of non-prescription clear lens glasses just because that's what she wanted to wear.

Same with my nephew. He no longer has to wear the patch, but wears glasses every day. No issues ever. Only problem is that boy has broken a lot. Gets pricey
Other than that no one ever makes fun

I was 7 and I was never teased either. Everyone was jealous when I was rocking the Sally Jesse Raphael pink or red glasses. Many of my friends got glasses who didn't need to wear them.

Jordan wears glasses and I have to tell you that some of her friends are envious. They are adorable and they are kinda in style now. They sell fake glasses at Claire's for goodness sake. Jordan was excited about her glasses and LOVES having them. She is 9 now and got them in 1st grade. She has NEVER once been teased.

Re: DD has to wear glasses...please tell me that the teasing I endured when i was little is long gone
My 3yo DS just had to get glasses. We also have to start patching his eye UNDER his glasses for 2 hours/day. The first time I saw him in his glasses, I have to admit, I was sad. He just didn't look the same. It has taken some adjusting on his part and on ours but it is getting better. He still doesn't want to leave them on, so that is the trouble right now. He does look awfully cute in them and we get TONS of compliments on how cute he is with them on.... Here is a picture for good measure... And I definitely do NOT think teasing is nearly as bad as it was when we were kids. Glasses are "in".

I think its changed now because SO many people wear glasses and they can be so trendy (I love my glasses!)
I could see why you'd be a little upset but I don't think the other kids would even think about it

Re: DD has to wear glasses...please tell me that the teasing I endured when i was little is long gone
I've worn glasses since I've been 2 and back then we didn't have the selection of glasses like we do now! I had my thick as hell Flinstone Frames and thats all there was.....I was teased.
Nowadays, they have the cutest kids glasses. As a teacher, I have not seen the same teasing going on about glasses that I once endured!

Re: DD has to wear glasses...please tell me that the teasing I endured when i was little is long gone
My dd is 7 and has been wearing glasses for a year now. she LOVES her glasses!!! infact she is not even supposed to wear them all the time and she does. Alot of of kids in her class wear glasses, infact i have noticed alot of kids as young as in the prek class and kindergarten classes wear glasses now. Its actually "cool" to wear them now. My dd has never been teased for wearing glasses, i think those days are long gone. Your dd has nothing to worry about.

My stepson has been wearing glasses since he was 2, he is now going ot be 13.
He has gotten into to fights and altercations at school but never was made fun of or picked on for the glasses.
He also had to wear the eye patches.
