DD is congested ALL the time
Anyone have this too with their newborns... She's 7 weeks old and ever since she's born she's been congested...I clean her nose at least twice a day but I hear her snoring at night ...At first the ped said its normal bc they were in fluid for 9 mos, she was at the ped a week ago and her lungs were fine...but I keep wondering why she's always congested...we tried the cool mist humidifier and it didn't seem to help that much...anyone else experience this and if so, what helped?
TIA

Re: DD is congested ALL the time
Hi Jen my DS was the SAME! My ped said the same thing, he checked his lungs and they were aok so just keep using the booger sucker, and the humidifier does help. We also raised the mattress in his bassinette - placed a rolled towel under the head part of the matress, the slight incline seemed to help his breathing at night! It did clear up in his 3rd month, and he's been aok ever since!!!

Re: DD is congested ALL the time
My DD was like this for the longest time. (1st 10 weeks) I elevated her crib mattress so she would sleep on a slight incline, cool mist humidifier, saline drops, steam out bathroom and sit in there with her for 10-15mins. One day it was gone. Now at 4 months she has a cold/cough and I am doing this all over again.

DD is 14 months and still goes through this. I was finally told it will clear on its own when I stop BFing.

Re: DD is congested ALL the time
It could be formula backing up, if you feed her right before putting her down. DD used to do thsi when she had reflux on the formula that was giving her gas. Since switching her formula and I sit her upright for an hour at least after every feeding before laying her down, she doesn't make the snorey noise anymore.

it does get worse after a feeding, BUT it is ongoing throughout the day,l so I don't think its bc of the formula..., or it is exacerbated a bit with formula...who knows...i'm just glad that it seems relatively common....

Do you keep her laying down or sitting up all day? I noticed about 20 mins after laying down while making the snorey noise, if I sit her up then it stops. Did you notice this?

Re: DD is congested ALL the time
Yes...my DS will be 7 weeks tomorrow and he is the exact same way. I asked the ped and they gave me the same answer. I think that it bothers me more then it bothers him. I'm glad to hear that it is common!

Re: DD is congested ALL the time
Oh my DD was exactly the same. I was driving myself absolutely crazy! She was like that the first couple of months and sometimes she would be so congested she would gag on the mucous. The ped said some babies are just like that and as long as the lungs are clear they are fine. I definitely agree with the incline of the mattress it definitely helped. Apparently formula/breastmilk can cause this. MY ped suggested a half ounce of warm water to help with the mucous. I would do it every couple of days. She would drink maybe like .25 ounces of it.
