DD is still sick...what are the RSV Symptoms?
DD had croup about 3 months ago then ear infection last week and was allergic to the antibiotics, so they stopped them, without giving a different kind, Dr. said ears were clear. now she has running nose constantly and BAD cough we were up for 4 hours last night with her coughing.
could this be something more than the average cold?
I was going to take her to dr. but that would be 4x this month and I don't know if they could do anything for a "cold" I just got a new filter for the humidifier , so I will run that tonight.
PS - she is in daycare oo

For Joseph, it was the same symptoms as a cold. There was no bark cough, it was a slight wheeze but with a fever. We had no idea he was that sick.
The neonatologist didn't feel he needed to be hospitalized & sent us home with instructions to get 2 cool mist humidifiers & run them in a small room with him in it ALL DAY & NIGHT. It was very scary & we were very lucky it wasn't so severe.
eta. you're right they do nothing for a cold. I would just stick with the humidifier all day long to help her with the cold. Those things are godsends.

Same exact thing with Andrew. We went to the ER but they didn't keep him. We just knew something was going on because he was sick for a long time and not getting better. The ped finally took blood and then sent us to the ER.

Re: DD is still sick...what are the RSV Symptoms?
Ryan had cold symptoms for about a week that progressed to a fever, lethargy, he couldn't drink his bottles and was just all over miserable. He couldn't sleep, every time he laid down he would cough and cry. He was only 4 months old and was hospitalized so they could monitor his oxygen, but once they're older they tend to do better with coughing up all the phlegm. (the mucious that gets stuck in the bronchiol tubes is what blocks them from getting enough oxygen when they breathe. They then have to work harder to breathe, get exhausted from that, can't suck on the bottle, etc.) I think many older kids and adults get the RSV virus and do OK with at home treatments of humidifier, suctioning if necessary and lots of fluids. They would prescribe a nebulizer and meds if it was necessary to open the airways, and sometimes I do put Ryan on it as a precaution if he sounds like he needs it.
The ped told me 2 days before he was hospitalized that it was just a cold, because that IS how is starts out, so if things get worse don't feel funny taking her back. Hope she feels better soon.
