DD needs a new hair-do...looking for suggestions

She is 6, and I think she is getting too old for pigtails. Although I do love them, and I especially love matching her hair ribbons to her outfits, I think it is time to move on.

She has very straight hair, all one length right now. We have done headbands, but it is just not very neat. Her hair falls out of the headband by the end of the day, and just looks sloppy. I've pulled the front back, into a small ponytail in the back of her head, but even that looks a bit sloppy, as she has a lot of little hairs in the front and sides that don't quite reach to the back.

Any suggestions? I'd still like it long-ish, but cute!

I don't think 6 is too old for pigtails at all! We do a lot of french braids, french braid twists into buns, low ponytails, and low side ponytails. We have a boar bristle brush which helps a lot with the fly aways.

I do braids, side ponys and headbands. DD loves when I do her hair in a messy bun, it looks cute!

Check Pinterest for ideas on girls hair. There are a TON of easy ideas on there.

When she lets me do her hair, I do side ponys, high ponys, low braid, french braid, half up half down etc. I got a book from the book store made by american girl that has some cute hair styles. Otherwise, she loves headbands now Chat Icon

Thanks ladies. I'm just really bad at doing hair! I watched a YouTube video of how to do a french braid. I'm gonna practice on DD's barbie head! I can get her hair into pigtails like I'm a quick-drawing gun slinger from the old west, but anything else...and I'm all thumbs!

I'm 40, and still do pigtails and braidsChat Icon

I think headbands are your best bet. There are sooo many kinds, I think you just need to find what works best in your DD hair. My DD hair is thin so the best ones for her are the non cloth ones. I buy the ones with the teeth so it catches her flyaway hairs. I actually buy a bundle of them at Dollar Tree for a buck. I've hot glued bows or flowers on them.

DD has very long hair and it's a wreck by the end of the day unless I do pony tails or fench braids. I do the double french braids.

I also do a French braid on just the side in the front, with the rest down.

I love headbands but DD doesn't really get how to work them, as you can see from this picture of her during the day on her first day of school:

I do an inside out ponytail. #9 on this list:
http://sayyestohoboken.com/2012/03/10-ways-to-dress-up-your-ponytail.html.

It works really well & stays in longer than most ponytails (she has curly, thin hair). It also looks a little more polished.
