DD needs an MRI and EEG
DD is 11 months and has been having these "spasm-like" episodes occassionally for the past 3 weeks. We took her to the neurologist yesterday and overall he found Samantha in excellent shape, but the episodes I described worried him a little so he is sending her for an MRI and EEG test. Because she's so little, she will have to be sedated!!
I'm so worried, but I know this is for her own good. Anyone have experience with MRI tests and having their little ones sedated? I have a feeling it will be harder on me than her.

Re: DD needs an MRI and EEG
When DS was 9-months he was having spasm-like movements. We did the EEG, but never the MRI. I wish you luck, I know how stressful this is going to be for you

Re: DD needs an MRI and EEG
Oh, I'm sorry you have to go through that...
When Gavin was 5 days old the doctors thought he might be having seizures...he was slumping down and very lethargic after his bottles... He had to have a CAT scan, EEG and Barium Swallow (this one was the worst!)
He was very young so he didn't need to be sedated though....but did have to get an IV in the top of his hand which just about killed me.....
I am not going to lie, I was a total wreck....but remember he was only 5 days old so my hormones were all over the place.....and it was emergency so I had no preparation. I got through it and you will too...just be strong for your baby and I hope veerything comes back OK.

Aw, I hope she does great. I can imagine how hard that will be for you...probably harder for you than her, thankfully!

Re: DD needs an MRI and EEG
We haven't done an MRI yet. Just the outpatient EEG and just had the inpatient one. To be honest, it will be harder on you than him. Hang in there!

Re: DD needs an MRI and EEG
My little guy has had Both MRI's and EEG's. DS was not sedated for the MRI because he was still so small. I was allowed to be in the room with him during the procedure. Lots of loud banging nioses, but overall he was just fine. Def. harder on mommy than baby. He has had a few EEG's since he was born, the older he gets the harder it is, just because he is a squirmy worm, but they let him watch movies and stuff, and it worked out.
It will be okay, and i pray everything works out just fine for you

Re: DD needs an MRI and EEG
back in July DD fell off the bed and hit her head on the floor, carpeted, but it was a good "thump" (she was almost 2).
she cried for just a few quick seconds and continued her day completely normal.
that night at about 10pm she started throwing up, again and again and again. Her ped didnt think it had anything to do with hitting her head but when she kept throwing up, for the first time in her life, we decided to go to the ER.
her examination revealed nothing, at this point she stopped throwing up, was singing, doing abc's etc. acting totally fine. the Dr. said to be 100% sure he would sedate her and do a CAT scan, I started crying!!!! I couldnt even hold it back, just the thought freaked me out. thank god it wasnt necessary, and this is so long winded, but I wanted you to know I totally get how you are feeling!
As someone who works for an oral surgeon that sedates children very often I can tell you, 1000%, that it will be a lot harder on you than her... these kids are so resilient, its amazing how quick they bounce back!
good luck, keep us updated please!
